Position Summary

The District Six Human Resources Administration Co-op will support the District Six Administrator with a variety of human resources projects and tasks. District Six is part of MassDOT’s Highway Division and supports a wide range of projects and employees. The co-op will leverage their human resources knowledge to troubleshoot issues, maintain compliance with state and federal requirements, and participate in the day-to-day human resources work of the district.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the District administrative staff with hiring and onboarding new employees.
  • Assist with the administration benefit programs at the district level and communicate regularly with MassDOT Headquarters in matters related to payroll, human resources, labor relations, employee relations and other divisions as necessary.
  • Maintain and create documentation regarding MassDOT, state, and federal human resources policies and procedures.
  • Respond to and advise district employees on human resources inquiries.
  • Attend meetings and take meeting notes as needed.
  • Work with accounting, payroll, and personnel by establishing operating relationships, and complete interdepartmental work accordingly ensuring organizational goals are met.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest or experience in human resource management.
  • Knowledge of the methods of general report writing.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, prepare and use charts, graphs, and tables, and prepare general reports.
  • Ability to write concisely to express thoughts clearly and to develop ideas in logical sequence.
  • Ability to understand, explain and apply the laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing assigned unit activities.
  • Ability to establish rapport with others and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with others.
  • Ability to adjust to varying or changing situations to meet emergency or changing program requirements.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential information.
