Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Office of the Attorney General’s Non-Profit Organizations/Public Charities Division. The Division is responsible for protecting and promoting the public’s interest in the Commonwealth’s public charities that range in size and complexity, from our largest universities and health care systems, to small local human service organizations.

Primary Duties: A Charities Specialist, also known as a Charities Examiner, is a public-facing role and is responsible for reviewing financial and other reports from charities and responding to questions from the public regarding charities’ filing obligations and the online system (Charity Portal) charities use to comply with these obligations. This Charities Specialist II position is responsible for the following activities:

· Review online Charity Portal submissions from charities to ensure compliance with statutory filing and reporting requirements;

· Review hard copy and online Charity Portal submissions from paid solicitors, commercial co-venturers, and fundraising counsel to ensure compliance with statutory filing and reporting requirements;

· Review dissolution petitions, including financial information charities provide; provide feedback to charities and counsel; and make recommendations to Assistant Attorneys General regarding charities seeking to dissolve and petitions to be filed with the Single Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court;

· Communicate with charities and fundraisers to seek additional information in connection with statutory filing and reporting requirements;

· Maintain up-to-date and accurate electronic records in AGO databases for all registered public charities;

· Through the Division's hotline, via email, and other methods of support, provide individualized assistance to the public in response to questions regarding public charities registrations and annual filings, solicitations, the Charity Portal, dissolutions and/or concerns about the use of charitable funds;

· Work with legal staff on the investigation of complaints with respect to regulation of public charities; and

· Other duties, as required.

Position Type: Full-Time/Non-Exempt. Our current hybrid model includes some remote workdays for most positions.

Salary: $59,400

Qualifications

Position Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. Applicants will possess effective organizational and recordkeeping skills, attention to detail, financial acumen, and a high level of proficiency with technology and computers. Applicants must also understand the importance of working as part of a team, be collaborative, have the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, manage time effectively, and prioritize among multiple work streams. Experience using a web-based business application, assessing financial information, reviewing legal filings, or as a paralegal are pluses. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills; good writing and communication skills; and a high level of proficiency in programs and applications such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Salesforce is required; other programming or data analysis experience is also helpful. Preference will be given to applicants with significant experience in reviewing financial reports, working with the public, or intake in a legal services, government, or nonprofit setting. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities we serve and an interest in supporting a respectful, diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
