CENTRAL MASSACHUSETTS REGIONAL OFFICE (WORCESTER)
Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for a highly motivated person to join her team to provide paralegal support to the Municipal Law Unit (MLU) in the Central Massachusetts Regional Office (Worcester).
The MLU carries out the Attorney General’s statutory obligation, pursuant to G.L. c. 40, § 32, to review all town by-laws for any conflict with the Constitution or laws of the Commonwealth. The MLU also performs the Attorney General’s statutory obligation to review all city and town charter amendments for any conflict with the Constitution or laws of the Commonwealth. The MLU also responds to constituent questions regarding municipal law issues and conducts frequent trainings for municipal officials and attorneys on municipal law issues related to the work of the MLU.
Primary Duties:
The Paralegal will provide critical administrative and legal support to the MLU. The Paralegal’s principal responsibilities for the MLU will be to acknowledge all new by-law and charter filings, log all filings into the MLU’s internal tracking system, calculate and document the applicable deadline for each MLU decision, file MLU decisions with the municipalities, disseminate MLU decisions to other stakeholders; and post MLU decisions to the public-facing AGO/MLU website. The Paralegal will also assist with responding to inquiries from municipalities and the public about pending matters; perform background research as needed to inform MLU review of pending bylaws and charters; perform legal research and monitor legislation relating to municipal issues that affect the work of the MLU; and respond to public records requests.
The Paralegal will have frequent contact with municipal officials, municipal counsel, and Assistant Attorneys General in various other Divisions in the AGO, will handle critical and confidential materials, and will help ensure the highest level of professionalism at the MLU. The MLU is a very active work environment that requires the ability to work on a range of complex matters under tight deadlines.
Position Type: Full-Time/Non-Exempt
Salary: $50,245.27

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. Applicants must demonstrate initiative and possess effective organizational skills, effective writing and communication skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, and the ability to understand legal information and work independently, as well as on Teams. Applicants must be detail-oriented and able to build and maintain relationships with staff and communicate respectfully with members of the public. Applicants must have experience with, or the ability to quickly learn, case management software and Microsoft Office programs. Applicants with experience as a paralegal and experience or interest in administrative and municipal law are preferred.
