WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Structural Bridge Engineer for our Denver, CO office. Be involved in projects with our Bridge Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Job Description:

  • Entry-level position to perform engineering analysis and design of transportation structures such as bridges and retaining walls. The position requires knowledge and application of basic engineering principles under close supervision; work is reviewed for adequacy and accuracy. Typical duties may include the following:
    • Assists with the evaluation, development, design, or selection of required structures.
    • Performs analysis and design calculations for structures.
    • Calculates estimated quantities and cost estimates for structures.
    • Provides guidance to CADD technicians for the development of structural design plans.
    • Reviews fabricator/contractor working drawings.
    • Researches applicable design codes and guidelines to ensure design compliance.
    • Researches design options and documents findings.
    • Coordinates assignments with the project team and supervisor.
    • May use MicroStation CADD to perform engineering tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree with a focus on Structural Engineering
  • Engineer-In-Training Certification or Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Familiar with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications
  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
  • Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, physics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Experience with relevant design software (i.e., MathCad, Excel, MicroStation, OpenRoads, ANSYS, STADD, SAP, LARSA, MIDAS).

Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $49,400-$76,600

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
