General Summary | The LIMS Administrator will be responsible for the daily administration of the Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) by overseeing laboratory data processes, troubleshooting, documenting systems problems, maintenance and design. S/he will also analyze business processes continuously to ensure seamless laboratory operations. |
Essential Functions | - Manages the installation and configuration of the LIMS database
- Performs the required backup and data recovery for the LIMS
- Performs, develops and documents support strategies, troubleshooting guidelines for the operation of the database
- Leads/assists the division in managing database users and implementing strategies for data security
- Participates in the formulation and monitoring of policies, procedures and standards relating to the division’s database security policies and integrity controls
- Monitors the daily performance of the LIMS database (or) performs daily database maintenance activities that include backup and recovery, capacity planning, and user account/access management
- Performs database and objects administration
- Reviews or monitors daily uploaded data input, transfer, export, and replication management
- Leads coordinator in all data warehousing
- Coordinates/works with developers to determine requirements for database system modifications and upgrades
- Establishes development standards and operating procedures
- Establishes a level of support which will ensure 24-hour access
- Reviews and maintains backup documentation supporting system and audit procedures for application recovery
- Specifies user and user access levels for each segment of the database
- Coordinates and creates customized reports
- Coordinates solutions to user problems with appropriate IT Division
- Analyzes problems in terms of system requirements, available equipment, and feasibility
- Generates test data and routines for new systems
- Produces ad-hoc reporting for information requests
- Performs application and system trend analysis
- Schedules and monitors maintenance of system
- Maintains integrity of database
- Works closely with all Laboratory staff, IT support, regulatory, customer service, and other Production Divisions to ensure the customer’s data requirements are met
- Responsible for ensuring the LIMS meets or exceeds the requirements of the laboratory, while ensuring the LIMS is aligned with business processes that interface with it
- Resolves technical problems and questions presented by the laboratory sections
- Makes recommendations for improvements to LIMS to take advantage of upgrades to lab instruments and software, new IT technology, and new laboratory methods

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities | - Thorough understanding of the principles, practices and techniques of laboratory analysis, good automated laboratory practices (GALP), laboratory instrumentation, workflow, and testing analytical methods
- Knowledge of water, wastewater, groundwater, and biosolids regulations at the federal, state and local levels, and all other applicable regulations and guidelines related to the lab
- Strong technical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills and abilities
- Good project management skills and ability to execute business development tasks
- Ability to successfully manage resources allotted to projects
- Ability to prepare and deliver presentations to a variety of audiences
- Ability to manage, oversee and coordinate staff in a team setting
- Strong documentation skills in preparing project reports, technical documentation, and meeting summaries

Minimum Education, Experience Requirements | - Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years system applications experience in a laboratory environment (preferably an environmental laboratory)
- 3+ years database management experience
OR - High school diploma (or equivalent) and 9+ years system applications experience in a laboratory environment (preferably an environmental laboratory)
- 3+ years database management experience

Additional Requirements | Completion of the WSSC Water Financial Disclosure statement within 30 days of employment and annually thereafter |
Preferences | - Experience with SQL databases, Crystal Reports, Labworks LIMS and LabWare LIMS
- Hands-on experience with scripting languages like Java, .Net, or other scripting language
- Hands-on experience with administration of REES Environmental Monitoring System
- Hands-on experience with administration of WASP inventory tracking system
- Previous experience acting as liaison between laboratory and third-party software vendors
