Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or servere weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.
Job Summary
The Supervisor, Craft Crew-General Equipment is responsible for inspection, installation, repair, replacement of mechanical equipment systems and inspection, repair renovation and construction of facilities throughout the Metro system. The incumbent supervises crews made up of General Equipment Mechanics. The work is technical and mechanical in nature.

- High school diploma or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
- Four (4) years of experience having performed technical and/or mechanical work in a building/facilities maintenance trade.
- Possession of a valid District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia motor vehicle operator's permit issued from the jurisdiction of residence
- Some supervisory and or lead-man experience preferred

Essential Functions
- Supervises employees in mechanical equipment maintenance. Supervises and develops schedules for inspection, preventive, corrective and overhaul maintenance and replacement of mechanical equipment systems and facilities. Conducts daily tool box meetings, develops job specific safety plans, performs safety audits and safety conversations. Participates as a member of a Local Safety Committee and performs incident investigations. Reviews maintenance processes and procedures from a safety perspective and recommends improvements.
- Supervises subordinate staff, recommends applicant selection, disciplinary actions, and grievance resolution. Assigns duties, directs work, and approves leave requests and time sheets. Performs on-site quality inspections and monitors work performed by contractors and internal staff; ensures compliance with established standards. Acts as site supervisor or coordinator to interact with and support other maintenance and operations functions. Analyzes work volume, staffing requirements and recommends measures to enhance performance and productivity.
- Trains employees using applicable technical data, tools, precision measuring equipment, special equipment, test instrumentation, corrective maintenance programs and procedures. Provides instruction on safety and environmental requirements and methods to minimize at-risk behaviors, avoid injuries and property damage. Teaches techniques for identifying and correcting safety hazards. Enforces compliance with personal protective equipment requirements and the roadway worker protection program.
- Purchases materials, parts and tools. Ensures their proper use, care and security. Complies with established procurement policies and procedures.
- Prepares and completes accurate oral, written, and electronic reports and documentation; ensures easy retrieval of information for statistical and management purposes.
- Supports severe weather and other emergency response efforts, provides immediate maintenance support to protect assets.
- Attends and passes the required safety training classes and continuously maintains current knowledge of industry best practices. Ensures subordinates pass required training, maintain their required certifications and that they perform assignments according to established safety practices and maintenance guidelines.
- Accurately maintains the Authority’s Maintenance Management database. Enters work performance data, monitors work orders and backlog, assesses equipment performance trends, and predicts future maintenance requirements.
