Verizon is a Fortune 500 company and prides in servicing 99% of Fortune 500 companies as well as Government Agencies around the world. In Canberra, we run a key business unit - the Government Security Operations Centre (GSOC) that supports a number of Australian Government departments. We have hired 25+ staff this year due to expansion of services and new contracts and are urgently seeking to add another experienced Network Security Engineer.

Our operations centre is focused around collaboration and success and you will be a part of a skilled operations team managing dynamic multi-tenanted and dedicated secure gateway environments. Because of these extensive environments you will have the opportunity to work with a variety of technologies across multiple vendors including Cisco, VMware, Nutanix, F5, Juniper, Palo Alto, Splunk, BlueCoat, Broadcom and more.

The right candidate for these positions needs to demonstrate they can be a “technical lead” across a broad variety of network technologies. Ideally they will work as a mentor within the team and not be focussed on pumping out BAU changes etc.

We would be looking for someone who has some experience in delivering new capabilities/major projects. Someone who is used to applying their technical expertise across an entire environment to ensure its supportability and stability.

Key Responsibilities of the role:

  • Providing input into the design and assisting in the delivery of major infrastructure projects including technology and hardware refreshes, new capability, new services and on boarding of new customers

  • Act as a point of escalation and mentor for Tier 1 and 2 engineers

  • Work with stakeholders to ensure solutions are supportable and documented

What we are looking for…

You’ll need to have:

  • A degree or four or more years relevant work experience.

  • Six or more years practical technical experience, with a strong emphasis on the operation of a secure gateway environment.

  • Three or more years’ hands on networking experience with detailed knowledge of network protocols such as OSPF, BGP, VPN IPSEC, 802.1q

  • Experienced in the administration of various Firewall platforms including, Palo Alto, Fortigate, Juniper SRX.

  • Demonstrable experience and knowledge of a range of protocols including SMTP, HTTP/S, DNS, IPSEC/SSL VPN's, TCP/IP, SNMP

  • Cloud Networking experience (AWS/Azure)

  • Experience with Cloud Access Security Broker technologies

  • Experience with administering Windows Server/Linux Operating Systems.

  • Experience handling Federal Government customers.

  • Australian government security clearance (NV-1 or higher)

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Demonstrable sound written and oral communications skills.

  • Ability to interact with technical and management staff to develop and problem solve technical requirements

  • Experience in designing, implementing and documenting solutions

  • Industry Certifications will be highly desirable

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast paced dynamic environment.

  • Ability to negotiate, when warranted, in order to work with other teams.

If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.
