What you’ll be doing...
The Verizon Cloud Engineering & Enablement team seeks an experienced, high-performing cloud inrfastructure and automation engineer. The senior cloud Architect is critical in designing automation to migrate workloads into the Public Clouds. We seek an experienced Cloud Architect who will help grow our cloud capabilities by strategizing, defining, architecting, and leading modern cloud solutions. This individual will be a tenacious thought leader able to scope projects, ensure delivery, and establish and maintain strong relationships with all Verizon stakeholders.
We seek an experienced, hands-on Sr. Cloud Architect to make intuitive, high-level decisions to improve the business experience. You will see the “big picture” and create architectural approaches for automation design and implementation. You will be responsible for the technical direction of projects, working with the Verizon security team to enable new managed services and meet Verizon security guidelines.
Architecting cloud-native, hybrid, or multi-cloud solutions to meet the client’s needs.
Developing architectural artifacts to lead the delivery of a successful implementation.
Defining technical direction and roadmap for Cloud migrations and managing the implementation and technical solutions.
Collaborating with Security, Governance, Cloud Engineering groups, and Development teams to implement solutions adhering architectural best practices.
Designing, implementing, and managing secure and scalable cloud architectures implementation and practices across various domains, including application development, identity and access management, network and data management, and security.
Leading technical discussions and knowledge sharing with clients through the development and delivery of impactful workshops and presentations on cloud solutions.”
Engaging with technical stakeholders of the client and third parties to understand how their systems work
Providing mentorship and coaching to technical team members
Providing technical leadership to evolve, mature, and migrate On-Prem apps to Cloud.
Owning the ongoing design, implementation, and management of the Cloud Infrastructure environment and testing and implementing new services as they become available in the AWS, OCI, GCP, and Azure environments.
Creating documentation to aid in knowledge management efforts within cloud services and provide training.
Documenting and creating playbooks for administrative/support actions to be used by Production Support.
Representing Verizon's brand at technical conferences by providing presentations, lectures and participating in group discussions.
Identifying and presenting best practices and recommendations for cost optimization and cloud efficiency across the all cloud platform to the business.
Reviewing vWAF requests received from Application teams
Managing Ransomware, Rightsizing, and Rehydration automation support
Acting as a liaison between the US-based Cloud Architecture and Governance (CAG) team and the larger VZI development community.

This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree or six or more years of experience.
AWS Certified Associate Solutions Architect and/or GCP-certified associate architect.
Eight or more years of System Admin, Software development, Design Architecture, and/or implementation experience.
Strong hands-on knowledge in core managed Services (e.g., IAM, Service Accounts & Keys, Encryption Keys, Object Storage, Logging, Monitoring, Pub/Sub, Functions)
Strong hands-on knowledge in core GCP Services (e.g., IAM & Admin, Encryption Keys, GCS, GCE, Logging, Monitoring, Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, Cloud SQL)
Knowledge of GCP services - GCP Big Data Infrastructure and Data Analytics services like Dataflow, Dataproc, Data Fusion, Composer, Big Query, GKE
Good understanding of different programming languages, e.g., scripting using Python or Bash to automate the build, test, package, and deployment of function(s) and configuration.
Strong hands-on knowledge of Terraform, Cloudformation, ARM template
Exposure to networking elements like VPC, Firewall Rules, Subnets, Availability Zone
Exposure to application Migration and hybrid cloud environments.
Solid experience with Data Migration and Backup Solutions
Strong understanding of governance frameworks and services in Public cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, OCI, and GCP.
Hands-on experience of IAC tools like CloudFormation/Terraform, with proficiency in automation using Python, Boto3, Unix Shell, and other scripting languages Python and Jenkins to automate the build, test, package & deployment of function(s) & configuration. Strong hands-on knowledge of AWS Lambda Functions.
GCP & AWS Professional Certification is an advantage.
Experience with modern source control repositories (e.g. Git). CI/CD expertise with DevOps toolsets (Jenkins / Ansible). Hands-on with Jenkins pipelines, Jenkins job creations, and configuration. Proficient in writing Ansible Playbooks for configuring the cloud environment and deploying middleware and application packages.
Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
Linux and Windows System Administration experience.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Migrating complex projects from on-prem to cloud, which includes web/App tiers and database transformation.
Implemented Enterprise Security remediation process in the Cloud.
Experience with technical troubleshooting and partnering with vendors and other organizations to drive root cause analysis and solve complex technical problems.
Infrastructure expertise in computing and database design for high availability and disaster recovery, monitoring, cloud efficiency, rightsizing, and patching.
Understanding of networking such as DNS services, TCP, load-balancers, routing, firewalls, etc., to be leveraged for designs and troubleshooting.
Knowledge of infrastructure (firewalls, load balancers, hypervisor, storage, monitoring, security, etc.) and have experience with orchestration to develop a cloud solution.
Experience with security best practices and use of firewalls, encryption, incident response, encryption at REST & In-Transit Encryption, and SSL Cert configuration at the Load balancer or server level.
Experience with SQL tables, queries, procedures, and functions.
Python, Django, HTML, jQuery, and Bash scripting experience.
Experience in creating automated processes using well-known languages and frameworks such as PowerShell, python, YML, JSON, Ansible, and Jenkins pipeline.
