Position Summary
The Physician Assistant (PA) reflects the mission, vision, and values of University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System, adheres to the UI Health Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and other regulatory and accreditation standards. The PA functions as part of the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high-quality, cost-effective advanced care to patients. The PA is responsible for the health outcome of an assigned patient population and consults and confers with supervising physicians in an area of clinical expertise within the PA's scope of licensure.
Physician Assistants will work at our OSFLCM site providing patient care within scope of practice.
Duties & Responsibilities
The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking a full time or part time Physician Assistant. Physician Assistants will work at our OSF Little Company of Mary site where we are looking to complete an already excellent group of APPs and physicians working together. The hospital is located in Evergreen Park on the south side of Chicago, addressing the needs of an underserved population. The Emergency Department is newly renovated and also serves as a core site for the UIC Emergency Medicine Residency.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
●Managing the care of patients within assigned area and/or area of expertise within the parameters of medical staff privileges
●Working collaboratively with other providers in the care of patients, providing education to patients, families, and significant others
●Integrating evidence-based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision-making.
●Acting as a resource for clinical staff in the practice setting. Participates in the educational experience of learners.
●Leading multidisciplinary teams to provide integrated delivery of patient care services
●Completing a minimum of 16 hours of continuing education in pediatric emergency topics every two years that are approved by an accrediting agency.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited PA program with Masters of Doctoral Degree in Medical Science.
- Current license as a Physician Assistant in the State of Illinois required.
- Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification required.
- Current controlled substance licensure required.
- Current National Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between physician, APRN and PA providers as well as college and hospital leadership and the multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrated experience in leadership, multidisciplinary collaboration, interpersonal communication, education, clinical experience and change management required.
- Documentation in the medical record to substantiate accurate billing.
- All full-time or part time physician assistants caring for children in the emergency department shall successfully
complete and maintain current recognition in one of the following: the AHA-AAP PALS, the ACEPAAP APLS or the
Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), PALS, APLS, and ENPC shall include both cognitive and practical skill evaluation
Preferred Qualifications
PA experience in Emergency Medicine or Urgent care setting preferred.
• All physician assistants caring for children in the emergency department and fast track/urgent care
area shall have documentation of a minimum of 16 hours of continuing education in pediatric
emergency topics every two years that are approved by an accrediting agency preferred
Being a graduate from an accredited PA program.
●Having a current license as a Physician Assistant in the State of Illinois
●Having current Controlled Substance licensure, American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, National Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistants (NCCPA), and current licensure as a current Physician’s Assistant in Medicine issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
●Successful completion and maintenance of certification in one of the following: the AHA-AAP PALS, the ACEP AAP APLS or the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), PALS, APLS.
