Position Summary
The Visiting Research Associate II conducts research by assisting with the collection and documentation of study data from research participants, cleaning of data and other supportive functions to facilitate efficient teamwork in a clinical research environment.

This position may supervise junior staff. This position supports the implementation of effective strategies for optimizing the recruitment of research participants and for maintaining their active engagement through to the study's end. The incumbent works closely with management to ensure those study goals are met and that regulatory compliance is maintained. This position may be undertaken remotely and will be focused on COVID-19 patient engagement by telephone.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform surveys, interviews, observations or uses other methods according to established research protocols.
  • Collect and review client evaluations/assessments, surveys, and participant interviews to develop reports for the PI and appropriate agencies to agencies and grant sponsors allowing for evaluation of project implementation.
  • May assist with study protocol development.
  • Maintain compliance with established protocols, regulatory and monitoring agency standards, and grant sponsor guidelines
  • Assess patients for protocol eligibility and participation in clinical research.
  • Participate in clinical research education and training programs
  • Execute informed consent process ensuring willingness and understanding of the participant
  • Prepare and contributes statistical data and pertinent information for papers, grants and other_x000d_ documents. _x000d_
  • Complete required documentation for internal and external regulatory agencies.
  • Schedule and conduct clinical research visits required by the protocol and track participant visits; may include completion of survey, interviews or other protocol specific testing
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
  • The UIC Department of Medicine, Pulmonary, Breathe Chicago Center (BCC) seeks a Visiting Research Associate II to join our Clinical Research Communication Center Team. Join us in shaping healthcare design at a top urban research university in Chicago and beyond.

    The Breathe Chicago Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago conducts research in COVID-19 and chronic lung disease funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, and foundations. We conduct studies in collaboration with academic health centers in Chicago and across the U.S.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in social science or related field required.
    • A minimum of one year related research experience.
    • Knowledge of research concepts, practices and procedures.


    Preferred Qualifications
    Demonstrated ability to provide customer service involving work with patients, customers, and the general public.
    Proficiency in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
    Experience in a clinical research setting, experience working with federal regulations and IRB’s preferred.
    Familiarity with medical terminology and procedures.
    Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Ability to work in a flexible environment with shifting priorities
    Demonstrated technology skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, REDCap, EPIC
    Excellent written and oral communication skills
