Description:

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences comprises the basic science disciplines within the College of Pharmacy at UIC. Located in the heart of the Illinois Medical District in Chicago, the UIC College of Pharmacy consistently ranks in the Top Ten U.S. Colleges of Pharmacy in total funding from the National Institutes of Health. The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is a collaborative, research-active unit with faculty organized across four program concentrations: Chemistry in Drug Discovery, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery, and Molecular Mechanisms and Therapeutics. SUMMARY
The Research Assistant Professor will play a lead role in medicinal chemistry campaigns supporting UICentre-funded and internally approved research projects. This person will also assist and support the Director in managing the Medicinal Chemistry lab within UICentre. The individual must be well-trained in synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry techniques and stay current with the literature. The individual will communicate findings in refereed publications and UICentre progress reports, write grant applications, and present at conferences.

Duties and Responsibilities
•Design and execute medicinal chemistry campaigns to support research within UICentre.
•Assist and support the Director in managing resources and facilities within the Medicinal Chemistry Lab in UICentre.
•Oversee and mentor Research Scientists and Postdoctoral associates
•Assist UICentre Director in assessing the medicinal chemistry needs of potential grantees
•Conceptualize their own research projects
•Author papers in peer-reviewed journals
•Write grant applications

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
PhD in Medicinal Chemistry
2 years postdoctoral research experience
Publications in refereed journals

Preferred Qualifications
•Proficiency in organic synthesis, purification and analytical characterization of organic compounds.
•Proficiency in iterative design-synthesize-test techniques for hit-to-lead campaigns, and in building and interpreting structure-activity relationships
•Familiarity with chemical-biological databases such as CDD Vault.
•Familiarity with molecular modeling software such as Schrodinger
•Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
•Experience coaching/directing postdoctoral associates.
