Description:

The Department of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Pharmacy, is seeking a Clinical Faculty/Clinical Pharmacist/Coordinator, Operations to join the Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Services unit. The practice site for this position is located at our newest pharmacy located in the Specialty Care Building (SCB). Our mission is to provide quality health services and promote disease prevention to all in the community of the UI Health System.

The SCB Pharmacy is open to serve its patients Monday through Saturday. SCB Pharmacy is an outpatient pharmacy and has many programs, frontline services, and personnel requiring oversight and collaboration. This position requires management of appropriate skillset in appropriate queues such as intake, clinical review, product dispensing, verification, and point-of-sale (POS) to name a few. This pharmacy is looking for full-time team player who possesses excellent judgement and management abilities, strong oral and written communication skills, ability to work independently, and is adaptable to a changing work environment. The successful candidate must also possess organizational skills and be committed to providing excellent patient care. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with USP 797 and 800 compliance and standards in a hospital or clinical setting is a must.

Coordinator responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Manage assigned staff for various queues and work closely with other coordinators and Associate Director
Assess gaps in activities to ensure patient care for pharmacy services
Supervise and direct staff when drug related problems arise and assure appropriate communication with all personnel involved
Evaluation of employee performance and identify staff development and training needs
Assist in probationary evaluations of assigned technicians and externs
Assist in daily assessment of technician and extern staff to ensure completion of duties
Align with other Coordinators on daily operations workflow
Provide operational programs oversight
Liaison for assigned staff in pharmacy queues to ensure safe and effective completion of duties
Assure pharmacy staff are informed of changes in program operations
Serve as liaison between pharmacy operations and Associate Director to continuously improve patient satisfaction
Establish and maintain interdepartmental communication and share it with the team under direction of Associate Director
Coordinate all USP 795/797 activities
Quality and Compliance (narcotic oversight), Inventory and Purchasing oversight

Clinical Faculty responsibilities of the position include the provision of didactic and clinical experiential teaching/training in the College of Pharmacy’s Doctor of Pharmacy Program.

Clinical Pharmacist responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Working in a cleanroom setting, verifying sterile compounding needs, clinic administered and patient take-home use
Staffing to support day-to-day pharmacy operations, offering clinical pharmacy services, and participating in positive outcomes in collaboration with the medical providers of UI Health
Evaluating medication orders for accuracy, contraindications, and drug interactions
Ensuring medications are prepared in a safe manner
Responding to drug information requests from providers and providing high-quality medication counseling
Maintaining medication inventory levels
Supporting an organized pharmacy staff workflow
Administering immunizations
Communicating with UI Health providers and patients regarding prescription issues
As assigned, completing projects to ensure complex operational activities are met in a timely and efficient manner

Qualifications:

Candidate must have completed a clinical residency and/or fellowship or have 2-3 years equivalent experience for practice in a clinical setting and/or education/experiential education.
Minimum 1 year of pharmacy management experience with personnel management
Licensed, or eligible for licensure as a professional pharmacist in Illinois as of start date
Graduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy PharmD program
Candidate must possess knowledge and skills such that they qualify for a non-tenured clinical faculty position (at the rank of Clinical Instructor) with the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the UIC College of Pharmacy
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with USP 797 and 800 compliance and standards in a hospital or clinical setting

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in an outpatient and/or hospital pharmacy setting is highly preferred
Previous experience with Epic Willow Inpatient, Epic Willow Ambulatory Module and/or Epic Hyperspace systems
Advanced decision making, customer service and multitasking skills
Bilingual English/Spanish
Previous experience with OmniSYS or equivalent Medicare Part B billing system
Previous experience working in health system setting
A specialized residency / fellowship appropriate for area of responsibility is desirable.
