I. JOB OVERVIEW
Job Description Summary:
The School of Medicine and Health Sciences is currently seeking an Assistant Director for the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Office at George Washington University. They will be responsible for assisting the GME Office and the GME Committee in carrying out its institutional responsibilities to include ensuring compliance with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accreditation standards for more than 40 accredited programs with over 400 resident physicians.

In addition, this position will have the following responsibilities:

1. Maintains a detailed, up-to-date knowledge of accreditation standards and requirements and communicates with program directors, program coordinators, and other University entities and officials to ensure compliance.
2. Leads the Special Review process for ACGME-accredited residency and fellowship programs.
  • Reviews and revises the GME Committee’s Special Review policy to ensure continued compliance with ACGME requirements;
  • Develops action plan for completion of reviews; determines dates, assembles review subcommittees, coordinates activities with program directors, faculty members, residents, and administrative representatives;
  • Serves as a member of the Special Review subcommittee; attends and records proceedings.
  • Composes the Special Review report for submission to the program and the GME Committee;
  • Supports GME Director and GME Associate Dean with implementation of post-program review strategies to correct deficiencies
3. Leads the Annual Review Process (APE) for ACGME-accredited residency and fellowship programs.
  • Reviews and revises as needed the APE template on the MedHub system.
  • Deploys the template and instructions to all program directors and program coordinators.
  • Assists the program directors in completing their reports for submission to the Associate Dean for GME and the GME Director.
  • Supervises the scheduling of annual program meetings with the Associate Dean for GME and participates in the meetings as needed.
4. Responsible for all aspects of educational activities and events for residents, program directors, teaching faculty, and residency coordinators, including New Resident Orientations, Chief Resident Orientation, Resident Appreciation Day, Fellows Retreat, GME Retreat, and other Faculty development activities. Directs all aspects of educational training and didactics sponsored by the GME Office and GME Committee, including Core Curriculum sessions, Resident Research lectures, Resident Patient Safety conferences, and Career Planning and Development sessions.
  • Schedules dates and participants;
  • Prepares and submits budgets to the GME Director for validation;
  • Contacts subject matter expert speakers, assembles teams and leaders, prepares and disseminates publicity, schedules, and materials as needed.
5. Serves as the central GME interface with the University Research Office and Research faculty in coordinating and disseminating information to residents, program directors, and residency coordinators for the annual resident research award competition and Research Day.
6. Prepares agendas and notifications for the GME and Housestaff Committees. Records minutes and provides follow-up support and oversight for identified action items. Provides oversight of Residency Coordinator meetings, to include notification and development of the agenda.
7. Prepares the Annual Report of the GME Committee for submission to the University and Hospital governing bodies and governing bodies of affiliate institutions.
8. Provides day-to-day supervision of one full-time GME Residency Coordinator and assigned student workforce; oversees the hiring of student workers for the GME Office.
9. Serves as back-up time keeper for GME payroll for staff and residents.
10. Represents the GME Director in his/her absence.
11. Maintains up-to-date knowledge through continuing education obtained through conferences, workshops, online sources, and classroom attendance.

This position is located on GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, D.C
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
