The automated biobanking core (ABC) is seeking an experienced Life Sciences Sr. Automation Engineer to join the sample management services team which supports all R&D and core technology groups at Regeneron. This position plays an important role in furthering Regeneron’s ability to advance our understanding of novel targets and biological pathways from discovery to pre-clinical development by automating sample management processes to gain efficiency, throughput and cost effectiveness.

A successful candidate will be an essential member of a team responsible for managing and distributing large collections of research samples using manual and automated cold storage technologies. They will have extensive hands-on engineering experience operating, maintaining and repairing automated low and ultra-low temperature storage equipment. They will propose innovative approaches, sample management workflows and assess new technologies.

A typical day in the life os a Sr Automation Engineer may include the following responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with sample management teams to support continuous operation of automated cold storage technologies
  • Support routine manual and automated sample management and distribution activities.
  • Train sample management teams on the operation of automated sample management equipment.
  • Proactively monitor and document equipment operation to ensure systems perform within specifications.
  • Create and prioritize recurring equipment maintenance schedules to reduce system downtime.
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely resolution of operational issues.
  • Identify new strategies and technologies to enable novel approaches in automated sample management.
  • Work collaboratively with IT groups to develop new and existing software interfaces which improve sample management capabilities and data acquisition and analysis platforms.

This job may be for you if you have the following:

  • Master’s degree in a mechanical or related engineering discipline (electrical, chemical, etc)
  • Minimum 5+ years’ field experience in industry or related field.
  • Broad expertise in the field of automated cold storage technologies.
  • Deep understanding of mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and automation control systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate, maintain and repair complex automation systems.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels within a matrixed organization.
  • Strong leadership skills with managerial and mentorship experience.
  • Experience with design, installation, commissioning, and decommissioning of automated cold storage technologies.

Salary Range (annually)

$92,500.00 - $151,100.00
