Primary Purpose
The Senior Manager, Thought Leadership and Advocacy will develop and execute the strategy to establish Exelon as a leading voice among our industry and general business, both externally and internally, on important issues, such as transformation of the energy industry, climate change/electrification, energy equity, workforce development and customer empowerment, including executive visibility platforms and plans for the CEO, COO, CFO and other leaders, as appropriate. The Senior Manager will be on top of industry and related developments and trends, building forward-looking thinking into communications initiatives, narratives and events that shape the company's reputation as a trusted expert on topics important to our industry and communities. This work also will translate into and support Exelon's federal advocacy efforts.
Primary Duties
- Creating and executing thought leadership and visibility plans and materials for key executives, including speaking engagements, media interactions (working with the media relations team), employee communications (working with the internal communications team), OpEds, social and digital efforts (working with the social/digital teams), etc. (20%)
- Ability to think strategically about the future of our business and competitive communications landscape, and translate that for external and internal audiences (15%)
- Collaborate with Federal Government & Regulatory Affairs team on key efforts to drive legislative support and/or action. (15%)
- Writing/editing plans, remarks, statements and other key materials, managing multiple projects and priorities. Skilled at crafting both long-form content and real-time (immediate) content, along with distribution strategies and tactics (15%)
- Collaborating with OpCo partners to build an enterprise-wide thought leadership strategy and supporting messaging for corporate and local Exelon leaders. (10%)
- Lead, coach and develop a small team of direct reports (10%)
- Researching issues/trends (10%)
- Interacting/presenting to c-suite and other leaders across Exelon. (5%)
Job Scope
Managing two direct reports Overseeing all corporate thought leadership and advocacy efforts Close collaboration with the corporate internal, media, digital and social teams, as well as OpCo communicators
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Communications or related field. At least ten years' experience leading communications for complex organizations, as well as possessing excellent interpersonal communications, writing and editing skills. Excellent verbal communication, writing, editing and presentation skills Strong interpersonal communication and management skills A high level of self-motivation and independence will be critical Strategic thinking ability; self-motivation; organizational sensitivity Excellent follow through capability; demands high level of performance from self and others Ability to interact with all levels of staff, including senior executives.
- In lieu of degree, 12-15 years of relevant experience.
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong understanding of integrated marketing communications strategy and tactics including traditional and non-traditional advertising (including paid search, natural search, affiliate, display advertising), digital marketing, public relations, marketing automation journeys, and content marketing.

- Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $123,200.00/Yr. – $169,400.00/Yr. plus an additional $25K in Long Term Incentive Plan annually.
