Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Creative Arts Therapist – Monday – Friday – 9a – 5p, – NYU Brooklyn.
In this role, the successful candidate Position Summary: Responsible for providing creative arts therapy program for pediatric or adult patients in assigned area under the general guidance of Supervisor or Director. As part of the Behavioral Rounding Team they will conduct rounds on all patients on observation on all inpatient units within the hospital. They will also develop behavioral plans and huddle with staff to support proactive interventions to both manage potential behavioral crises and reduce the need for behavioral 1:1 options.
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Utilizes knowledge, expertise, and resources to assess, plan and prioritize appropriate creative arts therapy interventions for assigned patient population. Seeks and assimilates information from team members, patient, family, and medical record to perform appropriate assessment. Assesses patients interests and creative/expressive goals using knowledge of human development/disease/condition, treatment, healthcare stressors, cultural and family systems.
- Determines and prioritizes scope and depth of creative arts therapy services indicated for each patient based on assessment/reassessment and develops care plans compatible with patient strengths, needs and goals.
- Plans, organizes, and implements individual and group creative arts programs for designated clinical area. Ensures that the program is varied and engaging to meet the psychological, cognitive, physical, functional, social, and expressive needs of patients and, as applicable, family members while meeting the guidelines established by discipline specific and applicable regulatory agencies.
- Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of individual and group creative arts therapy interventions and activities, modifying as necessary to achieve goals and improve performance.
- Complies with all applicable policies and procedures for the department, hospital, and external credentialing agencies.
- Facilitates patient/family relations in the context of Patient- and Family-Centered Care. Includes family members in assessment and interventions, providing education and support to families as appropriate.
- Provides, through direct and indirect involvement, a safe and therapeutic environment for individuals and groups. Selects a safe, appropriate supply of materials and equipment to address the needs and goals of the assigned area and population. Facilitates the effective purchase, donation, delivery, and storage of materials utilized in programming. Identifies environmental safety hazards and corresponding preventive/protective measures.
- Builds and maintains positive, collaborative relationships with interdisciplinary team members, integrating goals and plans to promote optimal patient care, safety, patient/family-centeredness and satisfaction. Recommends consults/referrals when patient needs are beyond the scope of Creative arts therapy.
- Where applicable, participates in ongoing student and/or volunteer management, program development and evaluation to best meet patient/family and unit/service needs. Develops competencies in teaching, supervising, and providing feedback for students and volunteers as assigned.
- Prioritizes, plans and organizes work for timely outcomes. Demonstrates the ability to evaluate own performance and integrate feedback into practice. Annually develops professional goals with measurable objectives.
- Participates in ongoing professional development to enhance knowledge and job skills and to contribute to the accomplishment of hospital and department mission and goals. Identifies and documents activities to maintain current knowledge, clinical practice, and professional certification.
- Upholds professional code of ethical responsibility including the establishment of therapeutic relationships with patients and families that are clear, caring, and with boundaries
- Documents services provided to patients/families appropriately, effectively, and in a timely manner. Maintains data collection and dissemination as required by departmental and hospital policy.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Masters degree in Creative Arts Therapy (Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Drama Therapy or Dance/Movement Therapy). Must be certification/registration eligible upon hire, with certification by the appropriate credentialing organization and LCAT within one year of hire.
Preferred Licenses: Creative Arts Therapist Lic
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification and LCAT with at least 1 year creative arts therapy experience in a healthcare setting.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $47,377.20 – $71,770.40 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
