Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Manager-Clinical Document Improvement.
In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for coordinating the workflow among the Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists. Oversee the daily work assignments of CDI Staff on the Nursing Units and past discharge review activity. Coordinate the concurrent query process and facilitate improvement in the overall quality of medical record documentation as it relates to DRG assignments. Through daily interaction with physicians and other members of the patients multidisciplinary team work to obtain appropriate documentation to support appropriate severity of illness and expected risk of mortality. Coordinate educational activities among CDI Team and monitor individual CDI reporting productivity functions and quality reports
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist with formulating planning implementing and evaluating goals within the CDIDRG Appeals Department that correspond to overall HIM Department Goals WUH Pillars and the Magnet culture of excellence Evaluate and adjust workflow practices in both CDI and DRG Appeals to meet department goals
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Partner with Case Management and Quality Improvement Department to ensure accurate analysis of DRG length of stay LOS severity of illness SOI risk of mortality ROM readmission data and PEPPER report Identify process improvement opportunities as they relate to clinical documentation
- Serve as liaison between the DRG Appeals RNs CDI Analyst and Patient Financial Services staff to ensure timely response to denials and accurate reporting
- Serve as a liaison between the Coders DRG Validators and CDI staff to achieve consensus on code assignments
- Partner with Associate Director of Coding Reimbursement Validation and Education and Physician Advisor to provide ongoing documentation instruction to Medical Staff Attendings Residents and Extenders Educate all members of the interdisciplinary patient care team on the importance of accurate and complete clinical documentation
- Assign targeted DRG Analysis to CDI Appeals staff Report trends identified from target DRG analysis to coding Manager and Associate Director of Coding Reimbursement Validation and Education
- Responsible for hiring orientation and evaluation of CDI DRG Appeals RN Conduct ongoing evaluation of CDI Specialists as it relates to productivity query rate query response rate completeness of review accuracy appropriate clinical indicators accuracy of DRG assignment severity of illness and risk of mortality Conduct ongoing evaluation of DRG Appeals Specialists as it relates to analysis of adverse determinations knowledge and application of coding regulations timely review and response to Payor denials and maintenance of department metrics Conduct ongoing evaluation of CDI Analyst for support of technical operations report design and maintenance data analysis and quality reporting
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelors Degree Nursing or other Clinical practice field Current and valid NYS Registered Nursing License or other area of clinical practice RN or RHIA Professional Certifications / Registration: Indicate special certifications that are required or preferred for the position Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist CCDS within one year ofHire OR Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner CDIP 3 5 years Direct clinical practice experience Excellent management/leadership and organizational skills Excellent communication both oral and written and interpersonal skills and a team player Excellent computer skills Excellent medical record chart review skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Master s Degree HIM Nursing or other Clinical practice field Certified Coding Specialist CCS OR RegisteredHealth Information Administrator RHIA 3 5 years Prior management or leadership experience

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $97,589.95 – $157,500.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

Step 1

Step 2
Schedule Interviews
If selected to continue the interview process, HR will reach out via phone or email first. Then, depending on your position, they will schedule an interview with unit managers or team members. You are encouraged to dress professionally for all interviews.
Step 3
Receive Offer
If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.
Step 4
Training & Orientation
You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
