Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Financial Analyst – Post Award.
In this role, the Financial Analyst (FA) will report to the Post-Award Team Lead on Research Admin POD Team #3. The FA will be responsible for analyzing budgets, monitoring expenditures, ensuring compliance with funding regulations, and providing financial guidance to project teams and principal investigators. This position requires a keen understanding of accounting principles, budgeting techniques, and regulatory requirements in sponsored research. The FA will also be responsible for ad-hoc projects.
Job Responsibilities:
- Financial Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyze sponsored research budgets to ensure accuracy and feasibility.
- Daily financial management of all grant accounts.
- Monitor project expenditures and provide regular financial reports to project teams and stakeholders.
- Identify and communicate financial risks and opportunities to project leaders.
- Prepare financial portfolios for investigators (financial forecasts and projections for sponsored research initiatives.)
- Budget Management:
- Assist in the development of project budgets, ensuring alignment with funding guidelines and organizational objectives.
- Monitor budget performance throughout the project lifecycle and recommend adjustments as needed.
- Conduct variance analysis to understand deviations from budgeted amounts and implement corrective actions.
- Reallocate and process personnel effort onto and off grant accounts.
- Review time and effort allocation with all grant related personnel and assist with effort certification.
- Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:
- Ensure compliance with funding agency regulations, institutional policies, and federal guidelines related to sponsored research.
- Review financial transactions for compliance with grant terms and conditions.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors during financial audits and reviews.
- Grant Proposal Support:
- Collaborate with principal investigators, grants administrator and research teams to develop budget proposals for sponsored research projects.
- Provide financial expertise during the grant application process, including budget preparation, cost allocation, and justification of expenses.
- Assist with progress report submissions (verification of effort and budget for new budget period)
- Facilitate financial closeout of grant accounts to sponsor.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelors degree and 1-3 years relevant work experience or an equivalent combination.
Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
Possess strong customer service and problem solving skill sets.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in business, finance or a related field with at least 2 years of relevant financial and/or grants management experience, or a combination of comparable education and experience.
The Financial Analyst will have a comprehensive understanding of research administration with in-depth knowledge of Uniform Guidance and other research regulatory requirements, specifically the Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards. Experience with PeopleSoft preferred.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $62,400.00 – $69,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
