Duties Description Under the direction of an Information Technology Specialist 4 (SG-25) within the Digital Transformation Office, Strategy & Enterprise Architecture, Architecture & Design, the Information Technology Specialist 2 (SG-18), position will be responsible for maintaining and updating critical technology in the Ny.gov ID service.
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
• Troubleshoot incidents related to the Ny.gov ID login system, including account issues and login failures.
• Resolve user authentication problems and service disruptions by identifying and addressing the root causes.
• Assist with debugging and resolving SAML and OIDC issues for applications integrated with the Ny.gov ID login system.
• Coordinate with Level 1 support to escalate and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
• Monitor system performance and user reports to proactively identify potential issues and areas for improvement.
• Stop and start services on Linux servers as part of routine maintenance or incident resolution.
• Prepare detailed incident reports and documentation for resolved issues to aid in future troubleshooting and knowledge sharing.
• Support users and application owners by providing guidance and technical expertise on authentication issues.
• Review logs and monitoring tools to track system health and identify anomalies.
• Ensure compliance with security policies and best practices for all authentication-related processes.
• Participate in regular training and development to stay updated on the latest SAML, OIDC, and authentication technologies.
• Provide after-hours support as needed to address urgent issues and maintain system availability.
• Track and update incident tickets in the IT service management system to maintain accurate records of support activities.
Minimum Qualifications Open Competitive: A bachelor's or higher-level degree including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science.
OR
A bachelor's or higher-level degree in any field and one year of experience in information technology;
OR
60 semester credit hours including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science and one year of professional experience in information technology.
OR
Two years of professional experience in information technology.
Promotion: Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 1, Salary Grade (SG) 14.
Transfer: Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 2 or Information Technology Specialist 2 Programming, G-18; OR in a title G-16 or above deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.
55b/c Appointment: This position is eligible for 55b/c designation and candidates are encouraged to apply.

• Appointment to this position and continued employment with the agency is contingent upon obtaining and/or maintaining New York State residency within six months of hiring.
• Appointment to this position is not final until all agency approvals have been granted.
NYS HELPS: This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
Additional Comments Some positions may require fingerprinting.
Some positions may require up to 25% travel and/or lifting up to 50 lbs. Some positions are pending Civil Service approval. Details of position(s) will be described further if you are selected for an interview.
Positions located in New York City, will receive an additional $3,400 downstate adjustment location pay with regular annual salary. Positions located in the Mid-Hudson will receive an additional $1,650 adjustment location pay.
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non- competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At this time, agencies may recruit and hire employees by making temporary appointments. In May 2024, if a temporary NY HELPS employee is satisfactorily performing in the position, the appointment will be changed from temporary pending Civil Service Commission Action to permanent non-competitive and the official probationary period will begin.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
