Duties Description As the Senior Data Strategist at SUNY Office of Research, Innovation and Economic Development (ORIED), you will be at the forefront of driving data-driven decision-making, forward-focused strategy development, and sustaining innovation. This role involves leading the development and implementation of advanced analytics strategies to support research across SUNY, building foundational research information systems, and strategic planning. We are looking for a dynamic individual with a strong background in data analytics, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, team environment.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Research Information Management System Coordinator:
- Coordinate system implementation, deployment, training, and day-to-day management of RIMS
- Ensure data integrated with the system is accurate, appropriate, and useable
- Collaborate with SUNY system, Research Foundation, campus staff, and researchers to gather additional data to populate faculty profiles and equipment data
- Customize and configure the system to align with SUNY system-wide requirements and workflows
Research data analytics expert:
- Create, share, and support adoption of standards for data creation, submission, and use
- Understand, inform, and implement organizational and system-specific data governance practices
- Respond to ad hoc data requests from system and campus stakeholders regarding research funding, publications, faculty areas of expertise, and equipment
- Identify trends, patterns, insights, and opportunities to determine strategic research initiatives across the SUNY system using a diverse set of models, tools, and techniques combining a variety of internal and external data sources
- Develop predictive models to forecast research trends and outcomes
- Generate reports, presentations, dashboards, and visualizations summarizing key insights for stakeholders from executive leaders to members of the public
Project Manager:
- Lead and manage data-related projects, ensuring timely completion and alignment with strategic goals
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure project objectives are met
- Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to stakeholders
- Able to lead concurrent, active projects in accordance with business goals and office priorities
Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in data analytics and research management
- Propose and implement innovative solutions to enhance data utilization and research outcomes
- Continuously evaluate and improve processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (mathematics, computer science, information studies, information science, business, statistics, science, technology, engineering or related field) and at least five years of professional data analytics or data management experience
- Strong technical skills with proficiency in data management, system integration, or database administration
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data
- Experience in project management, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Experience working with complex data sets of various types and from disparate sources
- Strong communication and presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a relevant field (mathematics, computer science, information studies, information science, business, statistics, science, technology, engineering or related field) and at least seven years of professional data analytics or data management experience
- Experience in higher education institutional and/or academic research environments
- Experience with business analytics tools such as: PowerBI, PowerQuery, Oracle BIEE, or Excel, and data analysis tools such as: SQL, Python, R,
- Knowledge of data visualization techniques and methodologies
- Experience with Research Information Management System (RIMS) or Current Research Information System (CRIS) such as Elsevier's Pure or Symplectic Elements or similar RIMS/CRIS
- Proven track record of successfully managing data-related projects
- Knowledge of NLP, machine learning, or predictive analytic techniques and tools
- Experience with APIs
Additional Comments Additional Information:
-Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. VISA sponsorship is NOT available for this position.
- Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, training, and certifications. The range for this position is $75,000-$90,000 annually.
- State Title: Staff Associate (SL-4) and is part of the United University Professions Union.
