Duties Description ITS provides operational support to state agencies on a 24x7x365 basis; some positions may be required to provide this critical service at any time.

Under the direction of an Information Technology Specialist 4, G25, within the Data Center Services Hypervisor Unit, the Information Technology Specialist 3, G23 will manage x86 Hypervisor systems

Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Manage x86 Hypervisor systems, VMware, and Microsoft HyperV, by configuring virtual switches, SAN LUNs, host baseline configurations based on industry best practices, at ITS main data centers in Albany and Utica, as well as regional offices.

- Manage virtual machine resource allocations and migrations of virtual machines across hosts and clusters.

- Manage Microsoft Windows Servers to configure network settings, storage settings, Role and Feature installation and configuration (Domain Controllers, Web Servers, etc).

- Work within ITSM\Service Now to monitor incoming incidents, requests, and change tasks. Submit requests and changes to track work that employee needs to perform or needs to have done for them by other teams. Document remediation steps in incidents for knowledge enhancement.

- Participate in Project work, coordinating tasks across staff and completing project associated work within established timelines; communicate effectively with project staff.

- Remain abreast of new technologies and innovations in the x86 Hypervisor arena for use in planning with CTO architects and staff development activities.

- Perform the full range of supervisory responsibilities
- Participate in On Call rotation as a secondary point of contact, by taking calls from Service Desk of Severity 1 and 2 calls after business hours. Contact vendor support if needed.

- Participate in available training/tutoring/mentoring opportunities regarding updates to policies, procedures, or DCH-WIN supported software.

Minimum Qualifications One year of permanent competitive services as an Information Technology Specialist 3 OR in a position at G-21 or higher deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of Civil Service Law OR in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in advancement of more than two salary grades.

Candidates must be reachable on the current eligible list for this title in order to be list appointed.

Some positions may require up to 25% travel and/or lifting up to 50 lbs. Some positions are pending Civil Service approval. Details of position(s) will be described further if you are selected for an interview.

Positions located in New York City, will receive an additional $3,400 downstate adjustment location pay with regular annual salary. Positions located in the Mid-Hudson will receive an additional $1,650 adjustment location pay.

For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non- competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At this time, agencies may recruit and hire employees by making temporary appointments. In May 2024, if a temporary NY HELPS employee is satisfactorily performing in the position, the appointment will be changed from temporary pending Civil Service Commission Action to permanent non-competitive and the official probationary period will begin.

At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
