Duties Description The primary duties of this position are to assist fisheries biologists and technicians with a variety of Adirondack brook trout pond fisheries management activities that include: conduct remote brook trout pond surveys using a variety of fish sampling techniques, collect samples for water chemistry analysis, collect fisheries biological data, and post signs. The technician may also assist with other fisheries surveys and use a variety of fishery gear types (e.g., back-pack and boat electro-fishing, gill nets, Oneida style trap nets). This position requires participation in public outreach events. Familiarity with boat and ATV operation, and trailering is desired. Must be able to work with a small crew (2-3 people) in remote areas. Position requires hiking and carrying gear several miles over difficult terrain. Must be able to lift 60 pounds and carry 35 pounds over rough terrain. Scheduled work times may vary, some weekend work is required. Technicians work 40 hours per week. Technicians must effectively interact and communicate with the public as needed. Must work effectively both independently and as a team member. Must have a valid drivers license. Must have certification to operate motorized boats or personal watercraft within two weeks of appointment.

Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.

Additional Comments This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 9/15/2025. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
