Minimum Qualifications • NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: There are no minimum qualifications for this title.
• COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: You must be reachable for appointment the current Civil Service eligible list used for filling this title.
• REASSIGNMENT QUALIFICATIONS: Current Office for People with Developmental Disabilities employees with one year of permanent, contingent permanent, or 55 B/C service as an Office Assistant 1. If you have less than one year, you must be currently reachable on the Beginning Office Assistant eligible list. 70.1 TRANSFER QUALIFICATIONS: One year of permanent, contingent permanent, or 55 B/C service allocated to a Grade 6 or higher deemed comparable to an Office Assistant 1 by the Department of Civil Service.

Duties Description Under the supervision of Human Resources Specialist 1, the incumbent will independently perform the following duties and not limited to:

• Provide reception desk coverage as needed. Greet employees and visitors. Respond to general inquiries via telephone, email, or in-person
• Filing
• Schedule fingerprinting appointments and EHS appointments for new employees
• Assist with processing and on-boarding of new employees.
• Track and ensure employees’ professional credentials are current.
Under the supervision of Human Resources Specialist 1, the incumbent will independently perform the following duties and not limited to:
• Answer phones and retrieve messages.
• Prepare outgoing mail for delivery and sort incoming mail.
• Order and maintain office inventory.
• Maintain all files for department.
• Copy materials for interviews and processing.
• Provide backup for Office Assistant 2s, as needed.
• Track and ensure employee’s professional credentials are current.
• Maintain organized systems for filing to include, but not limited to, employee history files, employment applications, and prospective employee folders.
• Other duties as assigned.

Additional Comments NY HELPS This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. This means that you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you do need to meet the minimum qualifications of the title.
If you are hired under the HELPS Program, you will be first be appointed as a temporary employee. In May 2024, if you are performing successfully in the position, your appointment will be changed from temporary to permanent non-competitive. Once you are in permanent status, your official probationary period will begin and you may take any promotion exam for which you are qualified. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status. You will not have to take an exam to gain permanent competitive status.
• If you are currently a New York State employee serving in a permanent competitive qualifying title and eligible for a transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law, you may be appointed to this title as a permanent competitive employee.
• Local Bidding Agreements will be honored. • Preference will be given to OPWDD employees impacted by closures. If you are being impacted by closure, please indicate this on your resume. • All OPWDD employees must be eligible and maintain eligibility for full and unconditional participation in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Continued employment will depend on maintaining eligibility. • If you are employed by state government you may be able to receive loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF). The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments have been made under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a qualifying employer.
