Minimum Qualifications EMust be eligible for reassignment/transfer or reachable on civil service list or six years of experience in a physical plant, which must include management* of daily plant operations including procedure development, budget planning and workforce allocation, efficiency, and enforcement of codes and standards; capital planning of construction/rehabilitation projects; AND/OR contract management of building maintenance/construction/rehabilitation projects and grounds.
Substitution: an associate degree in a related field**can substitute for two years of specialized experience; a bachelor’s degree in a related field**can substitute for four years of experience; a master’s degree in a related field**can substitute for five years of experience; and a doctorate in a related field**can substitute for six years of experience.
*Qualifying management experience: supervision of employed and/or contracted staff in trades engaged in the operation, maintenance, construction, or rehabilitation of a physical plant in a setting listed above, or a power plant; the development of plans, specifications and estimates for alterations and materials, and contract negotiation, approval, monitoring, and closeout.
**Related field: Construction Technology, Construction Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Facilities Management, Facilities Management Technology, or Plant Utilities Technology.
Non-Qualifying experience: Custodial or janitorial services; experience working in manufacturing/machine maintenance, grounds keeping, security, or transportation; or experience performing clerical work.
