Salary RangeFrom $18.77 to $18.77 Hourly
Minimum Qualifications Thirty (30) semester credit hours, including or supplemented by twelve (12) semester credit hours in forestry, which must include at least one (1) course in three (3) or more of the following areas: botany, dendrology, forest biology, forest ecology, forest mensuration, forest health/protection, forest soils, land surveying, natural resources management and silviculture.
OR
One (1) year of diversified, technical forestry experience in two (2) or more of the following areas: forest management, including sale and removal of timber products; natural resources/conservation including recreation management; horticultural management, including the pruning and cultural care of trees and shrubs; forest health/protection management, including control of diseases and insect pests.
Duties Description Assist with all aspects of Bureau of Forest Resource Management work including but not limited to: fieldwork collecting forest inventory data using standard forest mensuration tools and methodologies; boundary line maintenance; and computer mapping using GIS and GPS; timber sale inspections and timber stand improvement projects. Work to be completed will be under the direct supervision of a professional Forester and/or Forestry Technician. Incumbent may be required to work alone, in rough terrain, and in adverse weather conditions.
Essential skills include: tree identification, ability to measure tree diameter and height, GPS navigation, GIS data manipulation.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2025, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
