Minimum Qualifications Non-competitive: four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.



Candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated and pass LENS Check.

Duties Description This position will perform journey-level Masonry, Carpentry work and supervises others. Tasks include but are not limited to the installation and repair of floors, ceilings, walls and walkways, general flatwork, form work, tile work, fire stopping, installing doorframes, plastering and block/brick construction tasks. Prepares sketches and plans to scale from written or verbal instructions. Recommends and orders the type, quantity and quality of materials needed to complete work orders. Performs plumbing and electrical work when needed.

Essential Functions:

Repair and install ceramic wall and floor tile.
Install carpet and floor tile.
Grout walls and floors.
Pour and patch concrete sidewalk.
Repair and install drain basins.
Repair and install locking mechanisms & door hardware.
Repair sinks, toilets, showers.
Install outlets, switches, bathroom vent fans.
Additional duties assigned related to the trade.
Supervisor, train, assign and inspect others' work within the team.


Miscellaneous:

Attend trainings and certification requirements.
Perform related work as required.
Attend meetings when directed or in the absence of the supervisor.
Clean shops, vehicles, and performs preventive maintenance of tools/equipment.
May perform minor asbestos removal projects to facilitate repairs.


Operating Needs

Operate a variety of hand, power, and special tools for extended periods.
Perform moderate to heavy manual labor.
Works from ladders, man lifts or scaffolding.
Effectively uses and comprehends parts, operating and repair manuals.
Good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with others as a team.
Valid NYS Driver license, class D or above (other than a motorcycle license).
Self-starter, someone who can work independently, initiate tasks, and solve problems without needing much guidance.
Able and willing to work overtime, sometimes on short notice, responds to off-hour emergency requests, and provides an acceptable response.
Works well with diverse groups, as a team, with a positive customer service attitude.
Obtain Asbestos Supervisor Certification within six (6) months of hire.
Efficiently reads and interprets plans, diagrams, architectural blueprints and specifications.
Working knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the craft or crafts to which assigned.
Use tools, machines, equipment and material of the craft or crafts to which assigned.
Plan and layout work and diagnoses problems.
Understand and carry out written and oral instructions.


Working Environment:

Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work: heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50lbs.
Extensive standing and/or walking; occasional bending/stooping/squatting/crouching and pushing/pulling, repetitive movement of hand/wrist.
May be subject to exposure to outside elements.
