Minimum Qualifications Five years of experience in planning, coordinating, directing, and supervising the maintenance of a golf course and adjoining rounds. This includes relevant experience as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, Golf Course Maintenance Supervisor, Golf Course Manager 1 or 2 or equivalent. College education in turf agronomy, golf course maintenance or equivalent may be substituted for up to four years’ experience on a year-for-year basis. Training in turf management may be substituted for up to two years’ experience at the rate of 20 Continuing Education Units (CEU) equal to one year of education (10 contact hours of training = 1 CEU) A maximum of four years of education/training may be substituted for experience.

Duties Description As a Golf Course Superintendent 1, job duties include, but are not limited to:

• Oversee maintenance, design, upkeep, environmental planning, and course management for a regulation golf course.
• Function as a technical expert in areas such as turf maintenance, insect and blight damage prevention, environmental protection, course layout, and daily set-up for play and operational elements of the course play.
• Schedule, delegate assignments and supervise staff assigned to the golf course.
• Direct and oversee chemical application programs including insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, fertilizers, lime, and tree maintenance.
• Inspect courses daily to monitor irrigation needs, pest and disease problems, and overall turf health and conditions.
• Maintain chemical inventory and usage records in compliance with the Department of Environmental Conservation regulations.
• Instills staff with consumer-driven approach to interacting with patrons. Periodically surveys patrons to determine satisfaction with the facilties. Customer service amd any special promotions or programs.
• Plans for an implements long-term course maintenance projects through the periodic review and evaluation of operational stages/sequences. Short and long-term goals are established in order to efficiently and cost-effectively complete a given project. Secures approval from engineering/architectural staff as needed.
• Determines equipment needs, replacement and repair schedules, and procures supplies/materials/equipment as needed. Maintains inventory records and tracks placement of equipment. Coordinates use of equipment with other park maintenance personnel or units as necessary.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Additional Comments • Must be available to work weekends and holidays, and regular shifts between the hours of 5:00 am – 1:30pm depending on season.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Selected candidate must obtain a Pesticide Technician’s License (Category 3A) within the probation period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.

This position will include a downstate location pay of $3,400.
