Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have at least seven years of relevant work experience to be considered for this position.
Substitution
Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the required experience for these examinations as follows:
a. a Bachelor's degree in one of these areas may be substituted for two years of experience; or
b. a Master's degree in one of these areas may be substituted for three years of experience; or
c. any Bachelor's or higher degree which includes or is supplemented by 30 semester credit hours in public relations, journalism, advertising, communications, radio, or television may be substituted for two years of experience.
Duties Description The incumbent will report to the Regional Director, and will be responsible for the following:
• Build trust and understanding between NYSDOT and the public, ensuring open and transparent communication about projects and initiatives.
• Develop and disseminate public information materials tailored to the needs of diverse audiences related to projects throughout the five boroughs, working directly with project outreach coordinators.
• Cultivate positive relationships with media representatives to effectively communicate news and updates related to NYSDOT activities.
• Facilitate dialogue and address concerns of local residents, stakeholder groups, labor unions and the traveling public.
• Coordinate and execute large and small outreach events for the Commissioner, Regional Director and Project Staff.
• Meet with a wide range of constituencies.
• Coordinate with the Office of Government and Community Relations to brief Executive and regional teams on events and meetings with different elected officials and groups.
• Attend events on behalf of the Commissioner, Executive team and the NYC regional office.
• Manage stakeholder relationships with religious, cultural, political, and other local groups throughout New York City.
• Develop expertise on various priority projects throughout the five boroughs, identifying local issues and working with the main office and regional teams to come up with commonsense local solutions.
• Work closely with other divisions throughout the Department including legal affairs, communications, engineering, and planning.
• Work to drive engagement and partnerships throughout the five boroughs, helping to create a broad understanding of NYSDOT, its projects, its partners and its constituencies.
• Perform presentations as needed for various constituent groups.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
