Planner/Scheduler I (P6 MS Project)

Summary
The Planner/Scheduler I oversees the delivery of projects within the assigned program of work from a schedule management perspective. This role supports project managers and engineers for capital and O & M projects including planning, scheduling, schedule forecasting and analyzing through closeout. This role is also responsible for analyzing and challenging any contractor schedules that are incorporated into the program-level schedule. It is expected that each schedule will, at minimum, be managed to a granular level of detail. #LI-AS1
Responsibilities
- Support project managers and engineers for capital and O & M projects including planning, scheduling, schedule analysis, and reporting for Utility Operations.
- Progress and update each schedule at pre-defined intervals as defined by NYPA in line with the NYPA Reporting cycle.
- Development and maintenance of project schedules across an assigned program of work as per NYPA governance.
- Maintain the overall project plan to ensure schedule compliance while coordinating with engineering, design, and project management.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Project Management and/or industry standard methodologies and tools in order to provide technical expertise to projects.
- Coordinate and correlate schedule information with cost and resources to provide resource loaded schedules as needed based on project requirements.
- Coordinate project reporting to leads, monitor deliverables, coordinate work within or between departments.
- Review and analyze third party schedules for critical path, logic ties, etc.
- Analyze cost forecasts against schedule forecasts to ensure the information is in alignment, and responsible for
- escalating areas of potential misalignment to the project team.
- Identify and communicate key risks or opportunities that emanate from the impacts of schedule delays oradvancements.
- Ensure the appropriate application of codes at the project and activity level
- Accountable for collecting internal and external schedule updates and incorporating them into the master schedule
- Responsible for reviewing schedules and cost alignment monthly with project teams and communicating key risks or opportunities that emanate from the impacts of schedule delays or advancements.
- Accountable for ensuring outage requirements are incorporated into the schedule clearly, accurately, and consistently.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to view tasks logically, break them down into essential requirements, and generate a solution to meet the project goals.
- Advanced knowledge of scheduling and proficiency in either Microsoft Project or Primavera P6 is required
- Proven experience and knowledge in schedule analysis and development, including but not limited to milestone
- management, baseline management, CPM, time contingencies, crashing, QA, etc., is required.
- Understanding of and experience in the electrical utility industry, especially in Transmission Projects is preferred.
- Experience in cost/resource loading, earned value management is preferred.
- Ability to build working relationships and collaborate with various stakeholders
- Effective communication and writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal daily supervision.
- Ability to handle smaller projects from start to finish.
- Ability to identify and solve problems proactively.
- Knowledge of SAP / Maximo is preferred.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products.
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Education specialty in engineering and /or construction preferred
- Minimum 3 years of work experience in Project or Program Scheduling required.
- Project Management Professional (PMP), AACE, or similar certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Approximately 25% travel primarily within NY State
- Ability to sit at a desk and use a computer and telephone
The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is: $94,870 - $134,360. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
