Group Strategy, Innovation and Market Analytics (SIMA) leads on answering high-level strategic questions for National Grid and working with external stakeholders to collectively answer broader questions for the whole industry.
We are looking for a proactive, knowledgeable Senior Data Analyst. As a Senior Data Analyst within the Market Analytics team, you will be part of a team that navigate future pathways for National Grid by conducting in-depth energy market analyses, modelling scenarios, quantifying risks and opportunities for National Grid. You will lead in upgrading our data resources leading to better access and controls for our data. You will provide productionalisation capabilities for taking modelling concepts and turning them into data workflows to be used by our stakeholders.
The team combines the latest market intelligence, deep energy sector expertise and sophisticated modelling tools to provide insights that matter right across the business. We provide a trusted view on energy markets outlook and share insights that help the business to make informed commercial and strategic decisions.
What You'll Do
• Develop Market Analytics’ Snowflake database to provide access to data to our analytical teams.
• Provide technical capability to the team’s analysts to translate modelling requirements into data needs – building the framework to upgrade existing models and enable new tools.
• Integrate our existing Plexos modelling capability through data interfaces
• Build data end points for collection of upstream data from web APIs to feed into our database
• Provide support for running data queries within Snowflake to serve downstream modelling needs including bringing modelling capability inside Snowpark for future ML capability.
• Work with our IT partners to unlock data tools within the business including working with Solution Architects to design new systems
• Work with Market Analytics’ in-house model owners to develop and improve, ensuring they are fit for purpose and use data and code best practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Group Strategy, M&A, Business Development, Corporate Affairs and Commercial Operations to provide ad hoc data support.
• Mentor junior team members and support their learning and career development.
About You
• Demonstrated inter-personal skills and ability to influence others, work collaboratively and constructively with project partners, external stakeholders, and internal teams to achieve consensus and positive outcomes.
• Expertise in Python for data engineering to build pipelines, automation of collection, ETL, package building, data models.
• Database experience (Snowflake preferred) including managing systems (permissions, table design, data transfers, etc.)
• Experience with GitHub for managing projects and agile
• Familiarity with Power BI or other data visualization / dashboard development packages e.g. Streamlit.
• Self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and responsible individual.
• High level knowledge of energy markets would be advantageous.
• Previous experience with optimisation modelling software, such as: PLEXOS, Aurora, BID3, etc. would be an advantage

What You'll Get
A competitive starting salary between £64,000 – £80,000 dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
