About the role

As owners of Wales and England’s electricity transmission network we are responsible for the decarbonisation of the energy system. This is an essential part of the country’s Net Zero journey, and in order to make it happen we need to successfully deliver a portfolio of new infrastructure projects. These projects are often between £10m and £250m, building new and redeveloped substations and upgrading overhead lines and cables.

As Head of Project Controls, you’ll be responsible for the monitoring and reporting of our major construction portfolio of projects. You’ll ensure that all issues and risks are understood and managed to enable the delivery of the projects to time, budget and scope.

Overseeing the production and approval of project plans, ensuring that all activities are identified, and appropriately organised to deliver the project objectives, you’ll monitor and track the overall delivery status of the projects’ agreed schedules, providing the holistic view of performance.

You’ll also be responsible for monitoring project costs and forecasts, as well as tracking resource utilisation and managing risks and constraints. Reporting to leadership and other key stakeholders and maintaining an awareness of dependencies and interfaces of the projects and their potential impact will also be part of your remit.

We’re flexible on where you’re based, and the role will offer a mix of office and home working, with travel to various sites to interact with Project Directors.

What you'll need

In-depth expertise and experience of construction planning and project controls on multi-million-pound infrastructure projects or programmes of work is essential as is an in-depth knowledge and understanding of project lifecycles.

You’ll have previous project management/PMO experience on large projects ideally within the utilities, transport or construction industries, whilst managing large multi-disciplinary teams. With earned value capability, you’ll be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of large-scale projects and performance analysis.

Experience of construction planning, financial controls and risk management are all essential, as is strong communication and relationship building capability, and stakeholders management.
