About The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Construction Procurement Manager to join the National Grid Procurement team! This is a brand-new role driven by business growth and a desire to transform how we procure our construction projects within National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED). This is a fantastic time to join as we prepare our next regulatory period (ED3, starting April 2028). The successful recruit will play a pivotal role in developing procurement strategies and enabling future investments to support our significant growth.

The Construction Procurement Manager will be responsible for the development and delivery of our overarching construction procurement strategy and for coordinating the procurement of NGED’s construction workbook. The role will require a strategic and independent mind, strong commercial acumen and fantastic programme management skills. The ideal candidate will have an extensive background in infrastructure construction procurement and experience of effectively managing a large portfolio of projects.

What You'll Do

  • Report to the Head of Construction (NGED) and lead the development and implementation of construction procurement and supply chain strategies aligned with business priorities.
  • Co-define sourcing strategies with category leads and oversee associated strategic sourcing activities.
  • Define the delivery model for programmes/projects, including commercial constructs and go-to-market approaches.
  • Own NGED’s construction workbook and pipeline, translating stakeholder recommendations into actionable procurement requirements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, suppliers, and procurement teams to ensure effective sourcing of construction projects, including services and equipment.
  • Recommend project team resourcing, balancing internal and external needs in line with policies.
  • Coordinate cost estimation efforts to inform project budgets and provide input for program/project approvals.
  • Proactively assess and mitigate procurement-related risks, maintaining regular communication with stakeholders.
  • Lead strategic supplier engagement and act as an advisor to the NGED procurement team on commercial opportunities and choices.
  • Manage and develop a motivated team focused on delivering value and achieving strategic objectives.
  • Support Group Procurement initiatives across all Business Units, fostering a collaborative team environment.

About You

  • Extensive Experience in Construction Procurement: Proven background in procurement within major infrastructure, utility, or energy sectors, specifically focused on large-scale projects.
  • Transformational Leadership: Demonstrated success in leading and implementing impactful construction procurement strategies that drive results.
  • Project Management: Experience managing a substantial construction project pipeline, ensuring timely and effective delivery.
  • Strong Market Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the market with a commercial skillset that has delivered measurable outcomes.
  • Effective Communication: Ability to engage dynamically with stakeholders at all levels, including senior leaders in supplier organizations.
  • Change Management: Proven track record of driving significant organizational change in large, complex environments.
  • Analytical Skills: Strategic thinker capable of simplifying complex issues through rigorous analysis and clear communication.
  • Team Building: Experience in developing high-performing teams and fostering cross-functional collaboration.
  • Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to address procurement challenges in a large, complex business setting.

Candidates must have a strong foundation in construction procurement for large infrastructure projects to be considered for this role.

More Information

This role is offered on a Full-Time, Permanent basis.

We are also offering hybrid /flexible working where travel to the office will be as per business need. Base location for this role will be Warwick, UK.
