National Grid is hiring a Head of Data Capability - This position can be based from our Warwick or London office. Hybrid Working model.

Job Purpose

Since the establishment of the Group Data Office in February 2023, there has been a strong focus on developing a skills framework, job architecture, and learning and development offerings to enhance the data profession at National Grid. This initiative aims to empower employees and address the challenges of the energy transition by providing accessible learning resources and career information, ultimately improving diversity, retention, and engagement within data roles.

The role involves developing data capability across IT&D and business functions, engaging stakeholders to create a comprehensive skills framework and learning content. It will align with broader IT&D initiatives and lead the adoption of the framework to enhance recruitment, retention, and development of data professionals. Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills are essential, as the Data Capability Director will need to inspire and collaborate across various levels and functions within National Grid, drawing on experience in building data capabilities in similar organizations.

To manage large-scale projects from initiation to completion, delivering business change and benefits to a specific business function utilising a range of assigned resources and achieve program targets within budget, as well as the coordination of services, program offerings, and key performance indicators.

What you'll do

  • Define and articulate the case for change for the data capability
  • Engage stakeholders and SMR to co-create and buy into the data capability vision
  • Collaboratively co-create a career framework with a broad group of SMRs, leveraging industry best practice, but adapting to National Grid context
  • Define and achieve a sign off process
  • Create a portal for consumption of the career framework
  • Drive the adoption of the framework across all relevant parties, creating and delivering appropriate change management and communication tactics and interventions
  • Work with HR and Reward to ensure that the framework is aligned to the transformation efforts underway
  • Align with ongoing op model initiatives across IT&D and business
  • Define and stand up appropriate engagement, communication, and leadership forums for the broader data communit

About you

  • Track record of successful development and implementing data and IT&D capability framework in similar sized environment
  • Outstanding stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence upwards without any reporting lines (e.g. from IT&D to business)
  • Experience of working in matrix structures and complex, international environments
  • Track record of engaging and creating global communities and leadership teams
  • Project management experience
  • Commercial acumen, with the ability to quantify and track benefits
  • Extensive change management and transformation experience
  • Recognised change management qualification such as Prosci
  • At least 10 years relevant experience
  • Ideally a big 4 consultancy experience
  • Conversant in Digital and Data concepts

What you'll get

A competitive salary– £70,000 - £90,000 DOE

As well as your base salary, you will receive a company car or allowance, a bonus of up to 20% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
