National Grid is hiring a Lead Engineer (Gas Planning and Design Engineering) for our office in Waltham, MA. This position is hybrid, approximately 2 days in the office. A hybrid worker should also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to their assigned primary office.

Job Purpose
We develop and manage the design and engineering for natural gas distribution pipeline projects within the New England North territory. We are a high-performing team made up of civil and mechanical engineers of all skill and experience levels and are positioned under the supervision and mentorship of Professional Engineers.
What You'll Do
- Develop, coordinate, and review internal design drawings for natural gas engineering projects, using AutoCAD, in accordance with company and industry standards.
- Provide project management, direct oversight, supervision, and review of design drawings being completed by our external consultants.
- Assess project scopes and identify local requirements and risks prior to design to ensure a complete, high quality and safe project outcome.
- Coordinate with construction supervisors as needed to process design changes.
- Support Engineering Managers, Team Leads, and other engineers.
- Manage multiple projects and prioritize work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Review System Operating Procedures to ensure they are written in accordance with company and industry standards.
- Assist with mentoring and developing staff engineers.
Qualifications
- PE License required. Ability to obtain MA PE license if PE is in another state
- ABET-accredited B.S. Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering required.
- ABET-accredited M.S. Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering a plus.
- 8+ years in a civil or mechanical engineering role required.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar design products required.
- Proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite required.
- Experience using ArcGIS software preferred.
- Experience with piping, valves, and pipe fittings preferred.
- Excellent coordination, problem, solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver’s license required.
More Information
Salary: $132,000 - $155,000
