As Construction Safety Manager, you’ll have the opportunity to make a significant impact on construction safety within National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET), driving positive change and ensuring a strong safety culture throughout the organization. You’ll play a pivotal role in leading and inspiring a dedicated safety team to provide subject matter expertise related to National Grid’s large infrastructure construction activities.

Your primary focus will be on driving continual improvement in construction safety performance, ensuring compliance with legislation and more. You’ll have the opportunity to motivate and energise leaders throughout NGET, empowering them to take full accountability for safety leadership within their respective areas of the business. You will collaborate and work closely with NGET’s trusted supply chain.


Additionally, you will lead high-profile safety projects and campaigns, demonstrating innovation and best practices to foster continuous improvement across NGET.


Providing expert advice on construction safety, civil engineering safety, the application of CDM regulations, and the discharge of duty holder roles, you’ll build strong relationships with contacts across the business and with our external Contractors.


Furthermore, you’ll be a key contributor and facilitator in the development of the NGET safety strategy, ensuring its alignment with organizational goals and objectives.


You’ll stay abreast of relevant legislation, regulations, and industry standards related to construction safety, ensuring compliance and proactively address any emerging safety issues or changes in regulatory requirements. You’ll also undertake and support Incident Investigation and Lessons Learned activities throughout the organisation.


Your base location is flexible and there will be travel to sites and offices, combined with hybrid working from home.


What you'll need

With in-depth knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and experience of operational construction or civil engineering safety, you’ll have experience of the application of CDM to different duty holder roles.


You’ll have an understanding and experience of safety related risks and knowledge of incident investigation, as well as relevant industry experience, coupled with an appreciation of National Grid’s wider safety procedures.


Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to demonstrate sound constructive decision-making, as well as the ability to communicate well when interfacing with regulatory bodies and peer organisations are key as are effective people management skills with the ability to develop a high performing team.

You’ll be able to develop innovative ways in which to engage the business relating to health and safety issues and have the resilience, confidence and courage to challenge behaviours and issues at senior levels across the business.


You’ll also hold a relevant technical or professional qualification such as Degree, HNC in a related discipline, NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent, and have membership of an appropriate professional body.
