About The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Procurement Process Specialist to join our team on a Full Time, Permanent basis!

The Procurement Process Specialist is responsible for managing and optimizing the category management and sourcing processes within the organization. They play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and effective procurement of goods and services, while maintaining compliance with company policies and procedures.

National Grid is leading the charge towards a Net Zero future in the UK and NE of USA. We recognize that decarbonizing our electric and gas systems will require resolving many questions and seeking new partnerships, technologies and transformative investments. Over the next 5 years, we will be investing over £60bn across our UK and US businesses – nearly double the investment over the past 5 years. This is an exciting time for our industry that is creating significant opportunities for National Grid; this is not just a moment in time; it's a game-changing era that will shape National Grid's success for decades to come.

Given this backdrop, our supply chains are facing an unprecedented set of challenges and are at the forefront of our plans, placing National Grid Procurement at the centre of our Net Zero goals. We have set out an ambitious transformation plan, focused on becoming a client of choice for our supply partners whilst ensuring outstanding outcomes for our Business Units (BUs). Our strategy revolves around significant changes in three core areas:

What You'll Do


This role will work closely with various stakeholders, including suppliers, internal departments, and management, to streamline procurement activities and drive savings opportunities.

  • Own the outputs of the category management framework and strategic sourcing process execution experience by National Grid stakeholders.
  • Ensure documentation and materials are stored in an easy-to-use structure and platform for stakeholders, refreshed regularly based on new enhancements and changes, and communicated effectively across a large organisation.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, as well as internal procurement policies and procedures.
  • Drive process improvement activities underpinned by robust root cause analysis, stakeholder engagement and digitally enabled solutions to reduce cycle times, elevate output quality, and improve overall experience.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders such as suppliers to understand their process needs and requirements and embed within process framework.
  • Establish & maintain KPI’s to track process performance that ultimately drive critical procurement outcomes and enable the business.
  • Analyse procurement data and prepare reports to track procurement key performance indicators and provide insights to management.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, benchmarks, and best practices in procurement.

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree level in Business, Engineering or other related field; or equivalent 5 years’ relevant experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience with increasing responsibilities.
  • Lean / Business Improvement certification (preferred).
  • Proven experience in procurement or supply chain management, preferably in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience in process improvement or engineering with measurable outcomes sustained over an extended period.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement processes, contract management, and supplier relationship management.
  • Familiarity with sourcing and procurement software systems (Ariba & Coupa preferred).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory requirements.

What You'll get

A competitive salary between £46,415- £58,760 – dependent on capability


As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. More Information

  • This role is offered on a Full-Time, Permanent basis
  • We are also offering hybrid /flexible working where travel to the office will be as per business need. Base location for this role will be National Grid House, Warwick.
  • It is anticipated that some international business travel may be required as part of this role
