Job Purpose
This position is responsible for maintaining and developing the Operator Training Simulator used for critical operations training in the New York Transmission Control Center. The OTS Engineer will be responsible for maintaining the Simulator’s database in line with the online SCADA Networks Applications Model. In addition, the OTS Engineer will work with Operations and Training staff to develop training scenarios for initial and continuing training for System Operators. In many cases, the OTS Engineer will also be integral in delivering simulation training for the TCC staff. Additional support for creating and maintaining SCADA displays and calculations to support Operations may also be necessary. The candidate must possess excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and be comfortable in a procedure driven environment.
Key Accountabilities
- Maintain the OTS Database in line with the real time Network Model.
- Work with Operations and Training departments to develop training scenarios for Operator Training.
- Assist in developing and administering Simulator scenarios for Operator qualification
- Assist in developing and delivering training during initial and continuing Operator training cycles.
- Assist in maintaining and improving computer based operator tools as necessary.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Science or other technical discipline from an accredited school is strongly preferred. Coursework in power Systems and Modeling is desired.
- Knowledge of Windows and Linux Operating Systems
- Strong skills in Microsoft applications and developing presentation materials.
- Understanding of Power Systems modeling
- Basic understanding of electrical circuits and one line diagrams.
- Knowledge of the NERC TOP, EOP and PER standards
- Possession of a NERC Operator Certification or ability to obtain it.
- Principles of a systematic approach to training
- Basic knowledge of delivering training or ability to attend developmental courses.
- Working knowledge of Oracle and SQL

$90k - $127k a year
