About The Role

As Lead Quantity Surveyor within Strategic Infrastructure you will advise the Project Director and Contracts and Commercial Manager on best practice for HVDC related Contract Management, particularly for NEC and FIDIC based construction contracts. You’ll be responsible for assurance of the teams Contract Management, Risk management & estimating activities for appropriate Delivery Vehicles, to ensure all costs for assigned HVDC portfolio of projects are reviewed and robustly challenged.

Joining at Lead Quantity Surveyor you’ll take responsibility for one of our major infrastructure projects Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1)

Our land connection in Scotland is in East Lothian and our English connection point is County Durham therefore applicants accessible to these geographies are welcomed. We continue to offer hybrid working from office and home.

About You

· Experience in contract management in a Construction environment
· Experience of analysing and negotiating complex compensation events and variations and the ability to train others

Additionally if would be useful if you had experience of coaching and development in cost assurance and contract management skills, knowledge of cost assurance of engineering projects carried out under the FIDIC Silver Book based/NEC forms of contract as well as any knowledge of electricity transmission.

What You'll Do

CONTRACT MANAGEMENT


• You will lead & provide advice on the implementation of administrative procedures necessary to run a construction contract’ including but not limited to contract administration, cost risk analysis, dispute procedures, reporting procedures, etc.
• Leading in providing independent reviews you’ll advise on complex variations and compensation events, and support the process of escalation and dispute avoidance / resolution.
• Attending project related meetings you will support the Project Team in commercial and contractual matters.
• Ensuring due diligence is consistent, including ensuring consistent processes are followed, safe storage of data, keeping on top of contractual communication time frame, ensuring contractual risks are tracked and the relevant is escalated through the reporting line.

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT


· Working with both internal & external stakeholders you will support National Grid on regulator requirements.
· You’ll lead the assessment of the team performance, lessons learned, stakeholder interfaces on projects, and stakeholder relationships.

COST CONTROL AND REPORTING


• Coordinating across the portfolio; you will monitor, report, and advise on project cashflows. As Lead QS you will evaluate and advise on the financial implications and appropriate management actions.
• Coordinate the preparation & providing assurance on budget estimates including risk & contingency allowance at all stages of the project lifecycle.
• You will lead the commercial processes (incl. detailed cost reports) and internal governance requirements (including change requests) are adhered to at all stages of the project lifecycle.

MENTORING


• Supporting the assignment of schemes / tasks to QS & Junior QS within the team, you’ll also develop individuals’ contracts and commercial skills.

What You'll Get

A competitive starting salary between £60,000 - £72,000 – dependent on capability. You’ll also be eligible for a £3000 market supplement and brand new electric or hybrid company car

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
