Primary Purpose

  • Responsible for leading the Architecture function for the Information Technology department; including Enterprise Architecture, Platform Architecture, and Solution Architecture.
  • Leads organization of >100 Enterprise, Platform, and Solution Architects.
  • Day to day responsibilities include overseeing the new technology introduction process, defining and managing enterprise standards, collaborating with the business to develop overarching roadmaps, providing recommendations to address key issues, defining best-fit solutions for business problems, and managing the enterprise's technical debt risk.
  • In addition to day-to-day activities, leads the transformation of the Architecture function. Transformational areas include standardizing Architectural roles and responsibilities, centralizing and delivering architecture as a service to the various IT teams, aligning the function to the new Product and Platform Model, creating common Architectural "blueprints", and driving a "shift left" mindset where Architecture has a seat at the table during solutioning.
  • This role will also participate in the overall leadership of the Information Technology organization.
  • The Head of Architecture will also be required to create and maintain strategic relationships with key IT vendors and manage IT vendor contracts.

Primary Duties

  • Drive the transformation of the Architecture function at Exelon (35%)
  • Maintain relationships with business clients, ensure business processes and requirements are identified and well understood, facilitate committees and forums that drive investment and technology strategy. (20%)
  • Oversee new technology introduction and technology standard setting process. (15%)
  • Collaborate with business and IT teams to deliver best fit solutions to business problems. (15%)
  • Evaluate performance and provide coaching for IT personnel. Promote diversity and foster teamwork, collaboration, and a learning organization. Provide input on development and retention processes for IT employees. (10%)
  • Manage a budget (5%)

Job Scope

Total Staff Managed: Organization of >100 Enterprise, Platform, and Solution Architects.

Impact of this position on company performance is high. This position can adversely or positively impact earnings per share by a combination of the performance of the products and the cost of their delivery.

Reports to Vice President.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering).
  • Typically 12 or more years of experience leading and managing multiple solutions teams at the manager level or higher.
  • Experience with and deep knowledge of the business processes. Previous hands on experience with business applications and/or the product portfolio.
  • Demonstrated strategy planning and customer engagement skills and experience leading organizations and people through change.
  • Excellent consultative skills, including teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation. Advanced interpersonal skills, communications skills, and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to present and discuss complex technical information in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others, and gains understanding and approval.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Information Systems or related discipline or MBA.
  • 15+ Years of Architecture Leadership experience

  • Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $189,600.00/Yr. – $260,700.00/Yr. plus an additional $50K in Long Term Incentive Plan annually
