Primary Purpose
Analyze key strategic issues facing the company and assist in the development of strategic planning process.
In this role, you will help the Customer Strategy team, which sits within the CSIS (Corporate Strategy, Innovation, and Sustainability) department, build out key enterprise-wide strategies including but not limited to: DER, AI/GenAI, Customer Affordability, and Customer Effort Reduction, ensuring delivery of desired outcomes as part of the company’s 10-year strategy and Customer North Star objectives.
In this role you will be tasked with researching industry trends, conducting internal side by side analyzes, performing metric and modeling development, and making recommendations to Sr. Leadership. To be successful in this role, you need to be a fast paced learner, detail oriented but able to connect to the “big picture” strategy, work independently on complex problem sets, and collaborate with various stakeholders at all levels throughout the company.
Note: This is a hybrid position (in-office with remote flexibility). Employees are required to be in office at least three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).
Must sit within our service areas in DC, Chicago/Oak Brook, & Philadelphia.
Primary Duties
- Support multiple projects to analyze and resolve key strategic issues facing the company as either a team leader and/or individual contributor. Provide strategic analysis and critical thinking to structure analysis and analyze issues that will have a major impact on the company's performance. Conduct research on issues and serve as project analyst for strategy/planning initiatives. Arrange / deliver topical presentations or webinars to internal interest groups, either directly, using internal SMEs, or by engaging external ecosystem experts. Support the development of discussion materials at the CEO, Board Strategy Retreat and Executive Committee level (45%)
- Support the strategic planning process. Develop, maintain, monitor, summarize, and communicate market sector analysis including industry and market trends, forecasted market size and segments, value chain, customers, competitors, business models and strategies as it pertains to Exelon's Sustainable Growth strategy. Support business units in utilizing the information for strategic planning, creating a value proposition, prioritizing capabilities and investments, and other objectives to drive profitability, customer focus, competitive strategy, and growth as it relates to the strategy. Develop data and analysis that can be translated into conclusions, implications, and recommendations for incorporation into the business portfolio (45%)
- Support effort to cascade the Vision down through the organization together with strategic business literacy issues. Cascade the vision through the organization aligning and engaging employees. Communicate key strategic issues by presenting at employee meetings across the company (5%)
- Survey external industry data and stay current on industry trends/developments of importance to Exelon. Identify, summarize, and report emerging trends in various formats (5%)
Job Scope
- Independent contributor, reporting to Sr Mgr, Corporate Customer Strategy.
- Takes direction from VP, Directors, Sr Mgrs and/or project team leads.
- Frames and conducts analysis on strategic issues.
- Manages cross-functional special project teams as needed.
- Interacts regularly with key managers and executives on issues.
- Provides periodic written/oral presentations to key managers and executives on analysis of issues.
- Occasional travel across Exelon sites and business units as required (less than 20%).
Minimum Qualifications
- 4-yr relevant degree
- 7-10 years of industry/related experience
- Excellent analytical skills -demonstrated financial/quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
- Ability to frame ambiguous issues and structure appropriate analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to apply strategic and critical thinking to problem solving.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work productively with diverse teams.
- Solid written and oral communication skills, ability to translate analysis into key messages and develop story line associated with project analysis.
- Ability to work independently to advance assignments and developing ability to drive efforts to completion.
- In lieu of degree, 10+ years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of energy industry.
- Experience in one or more of the following: strategy consulting, investment banking, power and/or utility market analysis or cleantech.
- Ability to work as an individual or in a team is must.
- Experience in customer area such as but limited to call center, customer/opco strategy, field and meter service, Distributed Energy Resources (DERs)/Green Power Connect background, etc. are a plus.
- Proven analytical skills, including financial/quantitative and qualitative analysis, and the ability to build basic models.
- Ability to frame ambiguous issues and strategic thoughts, and structure appropriate analysis and frameworks.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to translate analysis into key messages and develop storylines for project analysis, as well as the ability to work independently and drive efforts to completion.
- Master’s degree in business, economics, engineering, or other related discipline.
