Manager, Substation Technical Engineering (Hybrid)

This is a hybrid role. The first three months are fulltime in the office.
This position directs all research and daily activities to support operation, maintenance and testing of substation facilities and equipment. Accountable for first response to all substation events. Provides the leadership and direction for the effective planning, organization and deployment of resources used in support of installation of new equipment in new and existing substations. Provides guidance on troubleshooting and maintenance of new and existing substation equipment. This position assists in defining work, mutual commitments and expectations with other departments through service contracts or agreements in support of continuing improvement in system performance and customer service.
Essential Functions:
Provides technical support for new and existing substations and substation equipment. Oversees and supports the development of quality assurance tasks such as new equipment factory inspections, new equipment Acceptance Testing and Commissioning procedures. Provides day-to-day substation technical support to operating areas.
Accountable for the development, maintenance and management of material, construction, operation, maintenance and design standards for Electric Operations.
Provides technical support to the Substation Operations and Dispatch Groups relative to system capacity and priorities, engineering guidelines, equipment operations and operating decisions during normal, transient and fault conditions.
Develops procedures to perform acceptance testing on all new substation equipment and systems. Develops and manages the preventive maintenance optimization process. Coordinates the review and assessment of substation facilities, equipment and operations during and after a major incident.
Assists with the annual plan and budget for substation operation and maintenance in collaboration with Electric Operations. Adjusts the plans, as needed, through incorporation of the results of root cause analyses and system changes.
Collaborates with other managers within Engineering on life cycle, risk analysis and reliability reporting and planning.
Oversees the management and development of area staff. Assesses the need for, and oversees implementation of, programs to ensure employees possess technical and behavioral skills required to support operating plans. Manages, selects, coaches and develops area staff.
Manages the area by establishing and monitoring area goals, policies, plans, programs, performance objectives and budget. Analyzes and recommends resource levels to plan, develop and implement programs and policies. Establishes operating and financial objectives and aligns with department goals. Responsible for management of area financial resources.
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Requires thorough knowledge of substation design engineering and operations support
Managing operating budgets and operating plans
Working cross functionally
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required.
Master’s degree in Engineering preferred.
Experience:
Ten years of related experience, including managerial experience
Demonstrated experience in planning and leadership of performance improvement efforts.
Working Conditions:
Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
Compensation and Benefits:
Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this position is $157,430.00 to $174,920.00, plus incentive. Salary is commensurate with your experience. Check out the career site for an overview of our benefits.
