Trainee Quantity Surveyor

Within this role the employee must, in accordance with laid-down company standards and procedures, assist with the day-today surveying activities on allocated contracts; from inception to completion.

Main responsibilities and key outcomes:

  1. Prepare monthly valuation applications in adequate time for inclusion within the Main Contract Valuation.
  2. Calculations of costs associated with contract variations
  3. Preparation of internal financial cost reconciliation reports; utilising the Form ‘S’ template on a monthly basis.
  4. Liaise with other staff and personnel, particularly in Purchasing and Contracts, on cost expenditure and management or recovery within the variation account.
  5. Preparation and submission of the draft final account for the particular project.
  6. Management of Sub-contractor packages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with appropriate personnel, (I.e: in Buying, Estimating, Contracts) and maintain good working relationships.
  • Attendance is required at the quarterly work in progress meetings in association with the relevant Quantity Surveyor or Project Surveyor and the Group Financial Director.
  • Visit sites with the Quantity Surveyor or Project Surveyor to take measurements for interim valuations and variations.
  • Undertake a range of general administrative and office-based tasks.
  • To work safely in accordance with the company’s current Health and Safety policy and procedures.
  • To undertake any other duties that reasonably falls within the scope of the job.

Capabilities to fulfil the role:

Knowledge

  • Through understanding of: Microsoft Excel; Microsoft Word and Contract Master
  • Basic understanding of the Aqua Group’s Cyberqube costing system

Skills

  • Good negotiation skills: this will entail being able to formulise and substantiate a coherent argument and be able to follow the argument through to a satisfactory conclusion
  • Good numeracy skills
