Description
SUMMARY:
Designs, develops, and tests innovative products and tooling and manufacturing processes, and helps drive improvements of current manufacturing processes and products in support of the company's strategic plan. Will additionally design and conduct test programs to support conductor and hardware development, research, and customer support. Is self-driven and will be occasionally directed in some aspects of work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Applies broad engineering knowledge to the design & development of new products and manufacturing processes.
- Evaluates and improves products and manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials, conferring with equipment vendors, and soliciting observations from operators.
- Conducts testing utilizing existing standards and test protocols for finished products and process capabilities.
- Develops and conducts of new tests, methods, and equipment as needed to establish standards, confirm product specifications and performance, and confirm manufacturing processes.
- Completes projects in a timely manner consistent with corporate objectives.
- Creates and maintains accurate and detailed documentation of concepts, designs, drawings, & processes; including assembly drawings, BOMs, detailed drawings, product structures, etc.
- Maintains current knowledge of competitive technologies in addition to developments related to company product manufacturing.
- Oversees outside vendors & consultants as required.
- Provides support in the resolution of product complaints and/or safety issues.
- Collaborates with other departments to coordinate the production of products, equipment, or processes.
- Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
- Maintains product and process database through computer systems and entering data.
- Trains and guides technicians in new or modified production or testing procedures.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Drives improvements in all related manufacturing processes, including those related to products, equipment, human interface and product quality.
- Supports positive team dynamics to ensure high performance.
- Understands all customer requirements.
- Reviews and enforces procedures from ISO 9001 and other certified quality control systems.
Qualifications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, industrial or similar engineering field.
- 3+ years of practical experience in technical design.
- Familiarity with OSHA and ISO 9000 practices and controls.
- Demonstrate familiarity with machining operations and fabrication.
- Ability to multi-task, set priorities and meet strict deadlines.
- Use a scientific method to solve problems.
- Proficient with Microsoft office
- Advanced SolidWorks experience
- Experience with ASME Y14.5 GD&T practices
- Demonstrate a professional and positive attitude as well as a passion for continuous improvement.
- Experience with World Class Manufacturing processes and methods, Lean, Kaizen, Kanban, 5S, TPM and other advanced manufacturing methodologies, tools and concepts
