Principal Analyst Real Time Trading and Operations: Expected salary range of $127,800 to $142,000, varies based on experience, along with comprehensive benefits package that includes bonus and 401(k).

Real Time Trading and Operations Specialist: Expected salary range of $104,000 to $130,000, varies based on experience, along with comprehensive benefits package that includes bonus and 401(k).

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

This position provides an interface between external customers such as the Independent System Operators, Regional Transmission Organization's, industry counterparties, and Generating Stations, market participants as well as internal customers such as Fuels, Generation Liaisons, Nuclear Duty Officer, and Wholesale Team Management. This position is responsible for analyzing, managing, monitoring, and optimizing the portfolio under management. Also, this role is to ensure that all relevant aspects including energy price, transmission, counter party, and contractual terms are favorable to and consistent with commercial strategic goals and risk policies and industry standards. The position will proactively ensure compliance with FERC, NERC, and ISO standards as well as internal risk management guidelines to achieve positive results for Constellation.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Collaborate with Wholesale Trading both as part of the DA setup along with iterative updates to plan in Real-Time to ensure optimization of the portfolio.
  • Develops short term strategies to increase corporate margin through optimization of Constellations portfolio of generating assets.
  • Develops transactional opportunities in accordance with the above strategies, including short-term transmission purchasing and management strategies, including negotiating all financial and operational terms of short-term transactions.
  • Coordinate, direct, and schedule, the dispatch of Constellation's generating units and PPA's during normal and emergency operations.
  • Monitors generation conditions via the Control System via alarms, telemetry values, status, etc. and keeps updated to meet requested dispatch of our assets and PPA's. This includes coordination with ISO/RTO's and plant personnel to meet system operation.
  • Communicates and documents generation and system issues (communicates with plant operators & ISO's, coordinates real time outages and testing, updates schedules, adjust generation of units as needed).
  • Manage real time generating unit outages and testing (evaluate capacity status, evaluate and process requests for generator outages and testing).
  • Maintain thorough understanding of ISO tariffs, manuals, Fuel Cost Policies and procedures governing real-time operations. - Support ISO driven system and or procedure changes. - Develop and implement strategies for transacting within new marketplace structures and regulations. - Initiate process improvement recommendations and contribute to improving procedures, tools, training materials on the desk.
  • Accountable for providing on the job training for the RT Operations Associate in conjunction with an internal training team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Principal Analyst Real Time Trading and Operations:

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Engineering, Business, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, or another related field.
  • Eight years' experience as a generation dispatcher, real-time trader, or an equivalent energy related position with transactional experience (e.g. purchase/sale of energy/ancillary/capacity/transmission products, etc).
  • Knowledge with one or more control areas/RTOs/ISOs: AESO, BPA, ERCOT, GSOC, ISO-NE, MISO, NYISO, PJM, SOCO, and SPP markets in the context of the wholesale business.
  • Shall obtain PJM Certification within one year.
  • Shall obtain NERC Certification within two years (potentially optional depending on the Lead description)
  • Self-motivated to achieve success within a rapidly evolving cross functional multiregional work environment.
  • Proven ability to take appropriate action within time constraints.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exhibit strong problem-solving and analytical ability.
  • Extremely detail-oriented and self-motivated with the ability to think independently and creatively.
  • Demonstrate the ability to respond to emergencies & manage stressful situations.
  • Ability to work in an operating environment that requires 24x7 shift work including Holidays.

  • 3-7 years' experience as a generation dispatcher, real-time trader, or an equivalent energy related position with transactional experience (e.g. purchase/sale of energy/ancillary/capacity/transmission products, etc).
  • Knowledge with one or more control areas/RTOs/ISOs: AESO, BPA, ERCOT, GSOC, ISO-NE, MISO, NYISO, PJM, SOCO, and SPP markets in the context of the wholesale business.
  • Shall obtain PJM Certification within one year.
