Job Description
The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) invests in a network of community-based organizations and programs to alleviate the effects of poverty and to provide opportunities for New Yorkers and communities to flourish. DYCD is currently seeking a Program Manager for its In-School Youth Workforce Programming unit, which oversees SYEP, Learn & Earn, Ladders for Leaders, and Work, Learn & Grow. SYEP offers paid summer employment to NYC youth (ages 14–24) in entry-level roles across the nonprofit and private sectors, alongside workshops in workplace etiquette, career exploration, educational planning, social development, and financial literacy. Work, Learn & Grow builds on SYEP by continuing career development during the school year. The initiative provides additional work-readiness training, academic support including the opportunity to earn college credits and guidance for postsecondary education planning. These programs, along with Learn & Earn, are integrated with select NYC Public Schools through CareerReady partnerships, ensuring delivery across all five boroughs.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of SYEP providers to ensure the delivery of high-quality services to youth participants.
- Communicate program policies, procedures, and expectations clearly to providers to support achievement of contractual goals in areas such as recruitment, job development, data entry, enrollment, placement, timekeeping, payroll, monitoring, evaluation, counseling, budgeting, and recordkeeping.
- Utilize DYCD’s web-based information and contract performance management systems effectively.
- Conduct field visits to provider sites for pre-program assessments, in-program monitoring, and post-program evaluations, offering technical assistance as needed.
- Perform audits of provider program records and make ad-hoc visits to support special initiatives or events.
- Supervise seasonal staff, assign and track monitoring tasks, and maintain accurate logs of monitoring activities.
- Compile and analyze provider performance data and reports to inform unit strategies and management decisions.
- Support additional projects and tasks as needed within the SYEP unit.
- Maintain a flexible work schedule as required by the program and at the discretion of the supervisor.
