Job Description
NYC DOT seeks a motivated graduate-level or undergraduate College Aide to work in its Resiliency Planning and Management (RPM)unit. The position would work under the supervision of the director and an experienced member of the RPM planning staff. The candidate would support a number of ongoing research and implementation efforts related to the department s goal of protecting transportation infrastructure and transportation users against the effects of extreme weather and climate change, particularly coastal flooding and extreme heat. Some duties of this position include, research, writing, and analysis related to climate change, adaptation, and resilience. Development of policy research questions and methods; coordination with other DOT units to receive input and prepare preliminary milestone deliverables for capital projects, as well as possible coordination with scientific experts, agency and public stakeholders; Identification, manipulation, and analysis of spatial data using GIS, Excel, and/or other software. Other various duties may include strategic and administrative preparation for meetings with DOT staff, other government agencies, Community Boards, consultants, and local stakeholders.

For Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications - Coursework related to urban planning, urban design, landscape architecture, geographic information systems, coastal and climate resilience, and project or program management - Experience and familiarity with coastal protection strategies and projects implemented by the Department of Transportation - Strong interpersonal written, verbal, and communication skills. - Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse ethnic, economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds - Excellent organizational and time management skills - Ability to work independently and with a team - Proficiency in data analysis, visualization, management, and other software programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator/InDesign, ArcGIS, ArcMap, Outlook. Familiarity with virtual platforms Zoom, Microsoft Teams a plus
