Job Description
The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person.

Under the direction of the Assistant Commissioner of Human Resources and the Director of HR Operations, the selected candidate will provide time and leave support to the Human Resources Unit at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The Human Resources Unit's core functions include recruitment, onboarding/offboarding, employee discipline, labor relations, performance management, payroll, timekeeping, leaves, and professional development.
The selected candidate will receive training to perform tasks including, but not limited to, the following:
- Learn to process 0150s/0180s to ensure timely payment.
- Receive training to review the Pending Pay Details Awaiting Approval (161) report and approve pay details to release employee funds.
- Handle essential administrative updates, such as processing employment verifications, address changes, name changes, and direct deposit forms.
- Learn to answer employee questions about direct deposit accounts, college savings plans, and commuter benefits.
- Help conduct periodic payroll audits to ensure accurate employee compensation.
- Support performing CityTime entries, including approver and schedule changes, OT approvals, and manual entries.
- Gain expertise in researching and resolving payroll, time, and leave questions with supervision.
- Assist with ensuring employees' timesheets are submitted and failures corrected to allow proper payment.
- Receive training to process documented sick leave, blood donations, FMLA requests, jury duty actions, and absence control reports.
- Begin processing MLAs appropriately.
- Handle MLAs and manual leave adjustments as part of the training process.
- Begin approving and adjusting weekly timesheets for employees.
- Assist in monitoring the overtime cap for employees covered by the Citywide Agreement.
- Learn to generate confidential reports using CHRMS, PMS, NYCAPS, CityTime, and other HR-related systems.
- Acquire experience in organizing and maintaining employee personnel folders and ensuring the secure handling of confidential information.
- Liaise with DOHMH, agency partners, managers, and supervisors as part of your training.
- May assist with transactions processed in NYCAPS, WCS, and other City HR systems.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned during the learning process.
