Job Description

The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) invests in a network of community-based organizations and programs to alleviate the effects of poverty and to provide opportunities for New Yorkers and communities to flourish.

The Assistant Videographer and Editor supports the Digital Storyteller in producing and editing video content to elevate DYCD’s brand through digital communications and engagement efforts. This role acts as a backup for all video production and editing needs and takes the lead on various production projects. The candidate will proactively develop content to highlight DYCD’s impact across New York City. They may also provide leadership in the absence of the Digital Storyteller, ensuring video content is executed effectively and efficiently. Staying current on emerging video production trends and technologies is essential. The ability to utilize their talent to help generate pre and post event video content including editing, assist with producing original content, as well as generate videos for potential advertising and marketing campaigns will be imperative to heightening the agency’s brand and tailoring it to all platforms and visual representations. These include internal communications, social media, various forms of presentations, advertising/marketing, and press outreach. The candidate will be expected to conceptualize visuals that align with organizational standards and brand expectations.


Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

- Film, edit, script write, and mix audio. - Utilize tools and software like Adobe Creative Suite and video templates to enhance footage quality. - Conceptualize stories and manage production details, including arranging music, cutting and trimming footage, adding effects, and writing captions. - Create marketing campaign reels for DYCD’s marquee initiatives and new campaigns. - Manage videography requests for offsite events. - Collaborate with agency units to align video production with DYCD’s mission and goals. - Develop a tracking system to manage project deadlines and progress. - Assist with organizing the video archive and maintaining a backup system. - Maintain a checklist and proper storage for production equipment.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
