THE SALARY FOR THIS POSITION IS 135K
The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Administrative Supervisor of Building Maintenance to oversee the operations of our Pneumatic Trash System within the Waste Management Department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical maintenance, project management, and facility operations, with a proven track record of leadership in similar roles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage the maintenance and operation of the pneumatic trash system.
- Interpret blueprints and provide clear directions to workers and management.
- Coordinate job sites with General Contractors and Architects to ensure compliance with safety and engineering standards.
- Establish and enforce daily operating and safety procedures in accordance with applicable laws and standards.
- Monitor and ensure the proper installation and maintenance of all related equipment and infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain databases to streamline access to blueprints and track repair status.
- Coordinate field meetings with contractors and various department units to plan renovations and upgrades.
- Manage financial aspects related to maintenance projects, including budgeting and contract renewals.

1. Eight years of full-time experience in construction, repair, alteration and/or rehabilitation of multiple dwellings, commercial, industrial or public buildings in the capacity of general contractor, superintendent of construction, procurement specialist, evaluator responsible for cost estimation, or as a field supervisor or as an inspector, at least 18 months of which must have been in a supervisory or administrative capacity involving responsibility for a large number of buildings; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above. Education in an accredited college leading toward a baccalaureate degree in engineering, architecture, engineering technology or a closely related field will be accepted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of four years. However, all candidates must possess at least 18 months of the specialized supervisory or administrative experience described in "1" above.
- Extensive experience in mechanical maintenance, facilities management, and project management. - Proven ability to supervise and coordinate multiple projects and personnel. - Strong understanding of blueprints, safety standards, and engineering principles. - Proficiency in using IT systems and databases for tracking repairs and maintenance. - Excellent communication and organizational skills. - Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and union representatives. - Must have at least 5 years of experience in the waste management industry. Education and Experience: - High school diploma or GED required vocational training or relevant certifications preferred. - Minimum of 10 years of experience in a related field, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or management role. - Experience with pneumatic systems or similar mechanical systems is highly desirable. - Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other relevant software.
