This is a provisional appointment.

Brief Job Description:

Under the Director of the Waste Reduction Program Manager, the Zero Waste Programming Coordinator is responsible for organizing and executing a wide variety of public recycling programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and directs the activities of the City of Boston's recycling programs and zero waste goals.
  • Coordinates the launch of any new recycling programs, including but not limited to food waste collection.
  • Coordinates special waste drop-off events throughout the year.
  • Assists in developing educational programming around our zero waste initiatives.
  • Assists in planning and executing zero-waste programming pop-up events.
  • Liaises with farmer’s markets and community gardeners on new programming.
  • Educates residents on how to properly recycle, including but not limited to landlords and community groups.
  • Acts as liaison between Waste Reduction, other city departments, and private agencies in matters relative to waste recycling.

Required to work any and all emergencies as directed by the Chief of Streets or designee.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least three (3) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, environmental programming experience.
  • Considerable ability to direct the activities of the recycling program, to organize and attend community meetings, to work with communities and other agencies in matters concerning waste recycling.
  • Experience in tracking programming metrics preferred.
  • Ability to maintain records, create spreadsheets, and give presentations.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.

Flexible hours may be required as needed in support of the position's duties.
